Hurricane Irma?

we will be in Disney so its ok.

Im counting on this event to be in and out Sunday/Monday

That is my feeling. I don't care much about FP anyway, most of the attractions I love most seem to have the least terrible wait times anyway. Only had 1 dining reservation I cared about which won't be impacted. And Disney is my happy place. If I have to extend 2 days and be extra broke, so be it. I don't know if I can stomach having to wait 6 months to try again after looking forward to this for years.

Question for those of you in the Orlando area. We are flying in on Wednesday the 6th. Our flight lands at 9:30. We are picking up our rental car and heading to the grocery store first thing. Is there still food left? We are going to grab some water, granola bars, soft drinks, maybe some bread, peanut butter, and jelly in case we get stuck in the room.

There will be a lot of data coming in with tonight's model runs at midnight (from stuff like hurricane hunter planes and other sources). I expect that whatever track people wake up to tomorrow will determine how crazy they will go at the FL grocery stores in the 24 hrs (if you mean 9:30am) before you arrive. Of course, supply trucks should still be moving anyway.

Vero Beach for a week. After a hurricane, is there even a beach left, or does it have to be replenished?
There may be no effect at all. Or the entire beach could be wiped out. No way to know, but the beach has needed replenishing in the past.

We arrive on the 11th. Not for Disney but the gulf beaches. Not doing anything but watching at this point. No reason to cancel yet.

Ahh the joy of Florida and trip planning during hurricane season

All my local supermarkets are completely out of water. Really people are making this a bigger issue than what it is and once someone sees 3 people grab water, they grab some and tell their family and friends and it turns into this. No one this morning before 11am was grabbing water. Once the news said it shifted slightly south, water was wiped out within an hour. Good news is nearly every store gets more shipments either daily or every other day

I'd refrain from judging others simply because they're are preparing differently than you.

I'm just north of Orlando and the stores are starting to blow through the non-perishables. There was definitely a sense of anxiety/panic and the water was being rationed to customers.

Hmmm I may need to break down and spend the money on an Amazon order then... we arrive Wednesday at noon, staying at Pop until the 13th. Packing snacks in case we get stuck in the room, but planned to buy bottled water locally.

I would expect stores to get deliveries at least through Friday. With today being a holiday, you could have had a combination of people off work shopping and maybe reduced holiday deliveries. I will be doing my regular weekly shopping tomorrow on the way home from work, so I will post my findings. I already had my water supply in, so I don't have to buy that.

Is there any reason why I shouldn't just bring empty water bottles/jugs with me in one of my checked bags and fill them all when we arrive......

Wondering about this too. We have water coming with our Safeway delivery to our resort on our arrival day this Friday, but wondering if we need to go above and beyond that.

We are doing something similar. Going to Clearwater the 9th and then over to Disney the 14th. We are debating cancelling the whole trip, but really don't want to. I guess we will make a decision by thurs morning at least on the Clearwater portion. So bummed!

Just informing those who are traveling to Orlando about my observations when I was at the grocery store this afternoon. The canned section was being targeted/busy. Pallets of cases of water were brought out and they limited the number of cases that could be purchased.

So we arrive Thursday morning. Probably too early for the Hurricane warning to be issued. What happens if we check in then it is issued? Can we check out and save some money? Do we get our tickets back? What happens with multi day passes if the parks are closed? How about dining plans? Looking like all this will happen AFTER we check in. We booked through Costco Travel with no trip insurance so I don't think there is a way to cancel. Looks like we can cancel and get 60% back. A bunch of $$ to loose.

We are annual passholders and will stop by F&W on arrival and departure. Flights can be refunded but our house rental can't at this point. We'll just wait and watch. Good luck!

If the hurricane hits the east coast, is the effect as bad inland at Disney and on the gulf coast beaches typically? Sorry if this question is stupid, I don't know much about hurricanes and have never experienced one.

If you feel you ordered enough to cover a couple days of being confined to your room (a worst case scenario) then you will be fine.

One thing you might have heard in regard to hurricane prep is to fill the bathtub with water to use to flush toilets if the water is shut off. I have never had the water turned off at Disney, although I guess it's possible. However, with the air pressure assist toilets in many rooms (those really loud ones) you can't add water to the pressurized tank, so that bit of info won't be any help. We have the same type of pressurized toilets in our house and although there are many benefits to them, that is one drawback. I can't think of any other reason for you to be collecting tap water, or for you to have a need beyond having a couple days supply if you're confined to your room. Even when my coworkers didn't have power after the 2004-2005 hurricanes, they had water.

I'm no expert either but from what others have said, it seems that hitting east coast would be better than west, as the easternmost side of the storm is usually the more damaging side? I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong there. So it would actually be worse if it tracked a bit west of FL from my understanding.

I must be crazy! We are booked Sept 10 - 16 at POR. I just added a room only resi for the 9th at POP and was able to change the flights for 2 of the 3 in our party. I would rather be stuck in a room at Disney than in a random airport.
Just did basically the same thing!

In my mind, if you have a longer duration stay than perhaps it may come down to sacrificing a day or two. But, if it was me I would keep the plans.

Wouldn't you just dump the water down the bowl like a regular toilet. No need for the water tank to be pressurized and filled

The worst weather will be close to the eye, so wherever that goes, the bad weather follows. The farther you are from the eye, the better the weather will be, and the fewer negative effects.
