HURRICANE INFORMATION (AUGUST 15, 2004): All parks except TL are OPEN

I think by saturday everything will be normal again. That is what is bothering me! I fly down Friday - If my flight gets cancelled - getting out of LGA this weekend will be hell - I am doing everything I can to get there before noon Friday now! I was originally scheduled to land at 6PM - when the storm would be at the worst in ORL! YIKES!

Forgot to add-expect lots of rain, winds, and possible tornados. We are awaiting the remenants of Bonnie tonight (lots of rain and possbile tornados) and Charley later on Fri and Sat up in the middle of SC. We are already under a flood watch, and the tornado watch will be going up later today they said.

We're driving down, leaving very really Saturday morning - hubby and I are trying to figure out when/where we're going to encounter Charlie...

Any bets? We usually make it to South of the Border by late Saturday night. I'm thinking Charlie will greet us somewhere in North Carolina.

We are scheduled to fly out of Allentown PA at 8a.m. tomorrow. My excitement has turned to panic at the thought of a cancelled flight. I'm wondering when the airlines will make a decision...
Pray for us!

wendy

my airline told me that if i miss the flight that i can re-use my tickets up to a year - so basically within the next year i will have a free flight to Disney! LOL!

If your schedule permits it - do what i am doing right now - look into getting out tonight and getting there before the storm!

I think he is going to resort hop!

Greetings from sunny, I mean... hurricane bound Florida!

Yep, Charlie is heading our way. I live in the Tampa Bay area (Clearwater to be more precise) and yes we are getting ready for Charley!

I just wanted to post a thread to keep everyone update, and for others to share information to those traveling to WDW.

Watching the weather channel, which I must say has been non stop, they now project Charley to make landfall at about 2pm on Friday with winds possibly topping 100mph! It should hit any where from Sarasota to Tampa Bay! (Oh, goodie!) After it heads inward it should continue across central Florida, up to Daytona Beach.

He will be passing by WDW, possibly for a breif stay in a deluxe resort and to watch Wishes on Friday night! :teeth:

For those of you that will be visiting WDW on Friday, Saturday, and Possible Sunday here are a few tips...

Pack or buy a few flashlights and some batteries.

Buy a cheap styrofoam cooler to keep drinks and snacks in just in case you are resort bound.

Have some books, games, etc. to entertain everyone.

If anyone else has some good tips, please share.

To all of my fellow Floridians...be safe and good luck with Charley!!:sunny: :teeth:

Orange (Orlando), Seminole, Osceola (Kissimmee), Lake, and Daytona county schools have been closed for tomorrow. Haven't heard from Hillsborough (Tampa) yet. Charley should hit Orlando a little after 11:00 PM Friday evening. So far, no park closings as both my sons are scheduled to work Friday and Saturday at Universal.

Tampa and Ocala are supposed to be in the eye. Orlando will be on the outer edge of the eye. There is a possibility of a cold front pushing it further west and missing Orlando.

I just have a few tips please add to them .People need to follow instructions of resort workers.I would go and purchase a flash light and small pocket radio.People staying off property watch the weather reports closely for CURRENT reports. Please don't drive unless it's a emergency.WDW may close all parks depending on Charlie's tract.Stay safe and be careful.Good luck to all of you at WDW:earsboy:

Great post...

Disney will take care of you if you are on property and the need arises (as they did with Hurricane Floyd a few years ago). It is good to have a battery operated radio and a flashlight (make sure you have extra batteries as well), in the event that there is a lose of electricity these will come in handy. The hotels will have the food and water supply for you and the Huricane cast is very well trained at what needs to be done. Make sure you pay attention to all information bulletins and stay informed. And above all have fun with what the hotel is offering (I know with Floyd, which never really hit us) the hotels that were all one building (Yacht and Beach, Boardwalk etc.) did a lot of activites in the lobby and around the resort to keep you occupied. Good luck guys and be safe...

We live in Polk county and are heading out today to get some supplies so we can be prepared ourselves. I have lived in Florida for 22 years (Clearwater originally) and have never actually gone for supplies, this time though it is not looking so good.

When does hurricane season end? Does Florida see hurricanes in early October?

Bets of luck to all of you. Stay safe!

Good Luck Lib...........

Hope it misses ya..............

Phantom, Hillsborough County schools will not be open tomorrow. They announced it just a little while ago. Citrus, Hernando, Pinellas and Pasco will also be closed.

HauntedMansionFreak and everyone else going Friday
Try to get to your hotels as early as you can. A car is not where you want to be during a hurricane. Also, many store/restaurants will be boarded up and closed. You may not find a safe place in time. I am sure the hotels are already preparing for a huge load of people. The effects of the hurricane can be felt in a large area. Just because the eye is not supposed to crossed over you until a certain time does not mean you will not get high winds and rain before and after the time it is supposed to hit. Everything to the right of the oncoming storm will get the worst winds and rain. Good Luck! These will be interesting trip reporrts to say the least.
::yes::

Does anyone know if the huricane will affect the Disney Cruise ships?

TIA! :)

The Magic leaves on the Western route on Saturday. It won't be in the path of the hurricane but may have to change ports if any of the scheduled ports, esp. Key West or Grand Caymen, have been damaged.

Question about #3 - do you mean no new PS for restaurants at resorts, or no new reservations for resorts?
