Hurricane Frances has formed this week in the Carribbean and is currently at Category 2 strength.

It is worth keeping a close watch on this one as it is predicted to strengthen over the next few days and is currently heading in a westerly direction towards Cuba/Florida or South Carolina.

It's still a good week away from making landfall at it's current speed and predictions are extremely unreliable outside of 3 days so it could dissipate or swing wildly away from it's current track.

Just worth keeping a watch on for now.

Alan. :)

Yikes ~ They haven't gotten over Charley yet !!!!

Alan, you are like our resident Hurricane expert :)

Fingers crossed very hard that this one doesn't cause any damage :(

Oh this is bad, were due to fly out this friday i hope it dies out at sea:(

Poor America:(

Frances has now become a category 3 storm and continues to strengthen.

Nothing has really changed as regards the predicted track and the speed of movement from my last post so it's a good 7 days or so away from the mainland US (if it gets there at all).

If it continues to strengthen, and conditions remain favourable for this, it could be a massive storm.

Frances has now been upgraded to category 4 and looks likely to make it to category 5 (the highest it can go) within the next 24 hours.

The Hurricane hunter planes are due to go out and investigate it today so we should have a better picture of strength and pressure after they come back.

here is the predicted forcast track as it stands now. Anyone planning on being in Florida next weekend should watch this closely.

Hurricane Frances is still tracking westwards and looks to be making landfall somewhere between Florida and North Carolina. A couple of the models have it hitting around the Daytona area on Sat/Sun.

It is currently a category 3 hurricane after weakening slightly over the weekend. However it is moving into some very warm water around the bahamas and could therefore strengthen significantly.

The latest reports from the Hurricane Hunter aircraft show that the maximum sustained winds are back up to 135mph.

Frances is now a category 4 hurricane again. :(

But at least it has started to turn NW now and the predictions are looking a little better. Fingers crossed.

All the models this morning have brought Frances back to the west and looking likely for a mid Florida landing.

The models also show Frances slowing from it's current fast movement as it gets closer to land.

Bad news all round this morning. The images posted in this thread on the trip planning board...

Hi

I have just heard that another hurricane might be hitting Orlando this weekend!!
Has anyone heard anything?

New hubby and I are flying out on Sat am for our honeymoon and are now getting very very worried.

Am only at work until Thursday 2nd Sept so any news before 4pm tomorrow would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Oh my God!
That's due to hit Orlando on Sat when are are due to arrive!
Great honeymoon we are going to have!

I see you are going in 12 days.
Where are you staying?

If we get there we are staying in the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Does anyone know how long hurricanes normally hang around?

If it hits Orlando Saturday and we get delayed until Sunday, will it have moved on by then?

Am getting scared now!

I'm sorry to say that it isn't looking good for us, we are travelling on saturday also, but I doubt very much if we will be flying out on saturday. I expect we will be delayed to sunday or monday.
But without trying to scaremonger, who knows what will be damaged or operating once we arrive. I must admit that it is really worrying and getting me down. Don't mean to sound ungrateful or selfish because we all have to remember the florida residents.
