hurricane fay? looks like it might hit orlando, does anybody know what knock on effect it has to virgin flights out of manchester or gatwick as we are flying to orlando on saturday, I can't find anything on the virgin website!!!

They probably won't know yet and it is still possible it might miss or not strength.

Any issues with the flights will be caused by MCO being closed and that they can't tell in advance.

Just keep an eye out but I am sure you will be fine.

Have a great trip :)

they closed the airport a few years back and we were delayed by two days! we then got to st petes to be told the following day were were being evacuated back to orlando and then the last weekend Jeanne hit and we had to stay in our rooms for 24 hours!!

We fly next thursday for our wedding so I'm also watching this storm

when are u getting married, looking forward to a week in disney!! Just hope this storm doesn't cause too many delays

would they close the airport?

if the weather is severe, they close the airport..

but its not that common that they do..

2 years ago, we flew into orlando 3 times (july, august and september)..
on all three occassions there were hurricanes just off the coast of central florida ..

on all 3 occasions we were able to land in orlando....the planes had to take a very circular route to get into orlando, but we were able to land...

i'll admit we were very nervous....everyone on the plane was....
on the first trip, when the plane landed, a woman seated a few rows from us shouted out, "thank you Jesus"...
everyone else on the plane laughed...but very nervous and understanding laughter as we had all been nervous..

but we did land....

and all 3 times the hurricanes were really quite close...

so you never really know until your flight whether you'll be able to take off/land/ etc.

From the link that islandmum provided it looks like they're expecting it to hit land tomorrow.

In which case it should be long gone by Saturday so you really shouldn't have anything to worry about.

we are getting married in disney on sept 2nd we cant wait! we have 14 ngihts in disney

from the look of this storm its nowhere near the strength to be a big one - normally they gain strength over the water to their max power and then once on land they decrease strength as they dump the rain and winds - so if its still a trpoical storm now or even gets to a Cat 1 hurricane you'll have no probs apart from it being wet!

we get Cat 1 hurricanes here every year, its not such a big thing. Cat 3+ - then you're talking BIG storm!!

Hi there guys!

We're here at the moment and it's like the calm before the storm Everyones quite relaxed .... except for the locals ... who seem to be stocking up on tins, water and dried goods as fast as we can buy Nintendo Ds's!!!!

Heading off to the Portofino tomorrow for my birthday so hoping it's gonna stay OK .... overall the weathers really not that bad in August and already planning for next year .... maybe next year including a trip to the Bahamas ... hoping Waynes OK on his cruise as I hear they're evacuating Tampa and the Fort Myers area already :rolleyes1

its still only a tropical storm and the path keeps shifting so hopefully it wont be too bad for you guys that are out there

Its staying as a tropical Storm over Florida - but...now predicted to stall and hang around for a couple of days.

We have just got back and the rain is constant!!!!! Feel really sorry for people going now!! Faye might not be a bad hurricane but the flooding is really bad and you cant really do anything with the constant rain pounding down!!!

Well its actually finally moving away from Florida now so I expect (and hope !!:thumbsup2 ) "the people going now" will be just fine. :)

Having arrived in Orlando 2 days before Jeanne hit,I know that they leave the Airport open until the last safe minute & it remains closed until they are given the all clear.Unfortunately for you until the Weather center know what path Fay will take you won't be able to get any info.Once the storm/hurricane reaches land anything can happen including it going back out to sea as has happened in the past.
HTH SD:thumbsup2

Further to my last post I've just had a look on www.weather.com & the predicted path for Fay should have her out of the "pan handle" by Saturday so the Airport should be ok
SD:thumbsup2

Heh thx :) - but you are a bit late - the airport stayed open for the four days the storm was more or less sat over central Florida. It has been moving away during yesterday and today.

Beautiful blue sunny day today - welcome back sunshine :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
