Hurricane Ernesto - headed for WDW

Sending my Aloha and good wishes to all affected by this storm/hurricane.

Living in Hawaii...we always keep a keen eye on the weather.

Yesterday here on Oahu we had an earthquake! It was small between a 3-4 on the scale but enough to rattle things a bit. It was quite a surprise as normally the Big Island gets the quakes b/c of the volcano.

Anyway, reminds you to always be respectful of mother nature.

I absolutely knew it wasn't a joke, and I truly apologize if you thought so.
Your comment just made me laugh about what we ended up doing here at our inland home.
After taking 3 hits (actually 4 since Frances went through twice) in 2004-I know that once things 'go up' they need to stay in place.

Once again, I apologize if you thought I was making fun. We live in FL, and we know how serious it is.

You'll be fine. By Thursday the storm will be approaching the SC coast. Your mom and sister are going to have a wet week...especially Tuesday night/Wednesday morning.

At this point it only looks like we'll be seeing 70 MPH winds and a bunch of rain. I expect WDW will get the same during the day on Wed.

We're half-shuttered. I'm going to wait and see before putting the rest of the stuff up.

Max is a good barometer! LOL Back in 2004, it seemed like we were taking them on and off every couple of weeks. They stayed up for a little while after Wilma last year and the side benefit was that they tend to keep the house a little cooler by keeping the sun out of the south side of the house when you have no power. The steel panels for the sliders are over 10' long and weigh a ton. There is great incentive to just keep them up but our HOA has a rule that they can not stay up if there's no named storm in the quadrant. This is why we are getting impact glass installed at the end of October. A couple months too late.

In North Central FL, we have to use the restaurants as our guide. When they board up, it's time. Being so far inland we never thought we'd need to do any real protective measures--but we learned in 04 that being inland doesn't always help. I can't imagine having to deal with putting up the shutters (and then removing them) every time a storm blows by. I know I would really miss the sunshine as well.

Well as of 9 am in Orlando so far it's no biggie.

The ONLY reason I am not at MGM is that one of our 14 year olds went for a sleepwalk to the NEXT building at OKW last night. She woke up and got herself home, but it made for a rough night so we are letting the kids sleep in.

On a positive note, I will have clean clothes when I get home I am using the time to do laundry.

Just saw that the hurricane watch is lifted for all of Florida!

Looks like coastal Georgia and the Carolinas are still potential hits for Ernesto. Best wishes and prayers to all in those areas.

Just got off the phone with my uncle who lives in Sebastian (he's a 10 min drive to Disney's Vero Beach). Storm has calmed down to a tropical depression in that area as per him. He said he had his storms shutters up just in case, but won't be needing them. He didn't sound concerned at all. Hope this helps.

Well, Ernesto seems to have fooled everybody and was a non-event for us. Should be rainy in WDW today and tonight, but that should be the extent of it.

I'm so glad, for all! I know that people eventually will get tired of these "false alarms" but really, with all that has happened over the last few years, I think false alarms are wonderful!

Our youngest DS is closing on his very first house in New Orleans tomorrow. So, we will forever be looking at the weather channel!
