Hurricane Dorian / WDW Theme Parks Discussion

Packing tonight for an early morning flight for our Disney Vacation.

We made the decision on Friday to cancel our WDW trip, was able to get reasonable airfare to LAX and a stay at the Disneyland Hotel for 7 nights. It was a tough decision after the 6+ months planning where we got all our dining, Fast Pass+ and other reservations we wanted plus having to give up free dining.

Disney was great about cancelations and refunds, Amtrak also canceled the Auto-train our day of transportation. Only money I'll be out is the tickets I got for MNSSHP, unless they cancel tomorrow night, from undercover tourist. (Pro-Tip never get e-tickets as they are non refundable, always get paper tickets as they can be returned for 95% face value or better yet don't use under cover tourist, I know I won't anymore if I don't get a refund as if I had gone through Disney I would have gotten those refunded as well).

Good luck to everyone down in Orlando, I wish you nothing but luck and hope the storm turns way out to sea and doesn't affect you, though I won't be upset if the do wind up cancelling MNSSHP for Labor Day.

Brett Wyman, sorry but where do they state that the wind speeds for Orlando will be that high in that video? I must have missed it. I watched the video but I didn't hear or see speeds that high posted for Orlando. I thought the highest possibly was 50 mph but looked more like 25-30 mph. Which thankfully isn't that bad.

I'll go back and watch it again.

All right folks, we’re not going to use this thread as our own personal forum for individual weather forecasts. Post #2 has links to some national and local weather resources. Posting links to national and local official forecasting websites and social media posts is very easy with our new forum software - we should leave it up to the pros to provide us with weather data and interpretations - and how that may impact the WDW parks/resorts area.

Thanks all.

Well, I have a few other creative words to describe Dorian!
In all seriousness, we’re still on 75 in Florida near Lake City and have passed probably 200 linesmen at this point, I kid you not! Many, many ambulances and other emergency vehicles heading down, trailers hauling backhoes, search and rescue boats. Saw police escorting fuel trucks also to help the gas issues. We’ll see what 10 looks like when we pass it but I fully expect way more traffic there as it’s a major route out of Jacksonville.
When you’re in the bubble, you’re insulated from seeing the seriousness of the situation. Please be careful if you’re driving anywhere down here!
We are in Virginia and went to an amusement park north of Richmond Friday. On the way home, we passed caravans of power company trucks headed south. Dozens upon dozens. On the way home from work yesterday, I saw dozens more.

just wanted to note that, as someone who is watching this forum closely, the “forecast” locals or people experienced with WDW procedure has been very helpful. all of those links, which i am also following closely, tell me how it will logistically effect the plans i have at WDW.

Look for Brian Shields tv meteorologist in Orlando area who is mentioned on the first page. His Facebook page gives wind info for Osceola county- Orlando area and other Counties.

He does caution all his viewers to not let their guard down.

Is there a list of attractions that are regularly/most likely to be closed for wind? I am thinking a reasonable strategy might be to switch a couple of mediocre FP's for some other mediocre FP's, but for rides that could be closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

Thursday? Did I miss something about the weather? What I saw is Tuesday/Wednesday is the bulk of it. Where did you get the Thursday info as I am down here right now.

Hey, I thought WE were the ones that did that! :) (Waiting now at O'Hare for our flight to Michigan.)
Spirit canceled our flight scheduled for today at 11:18 to DTW at least as early as Sat at 5:00AM. We found out when I checked the site when the Fantasy arrived at PC Sat AM.

Never received any email. Agent tried to deny it was canceled but it was right on the site. I was still getting reminders to check in!! We rented a car & left Orlando at 11:00AM yesterday. Arrived at DTW to pick up our van today around 3:00PM, about the same time our flight would have landed 😑

Yeah I was on MCO's site and all of Spirits flights were cancelled. And on MCO's Twitter Frontier did that too. Cancelled flights without telling people.

The smaller airlines did this during Irma, as well. I had to call JetBlue to confirm my flight home was still happening and nope, they canceled it without letting me know at all.

Yeah, mostly Wednesday. I get there Wednesday, which is why I didn't say Tuesday.

My friends in Jacksonville already have mandatory evacuation orders (due to probable flooding), and will be on the road tonight, with others following. There will be gas shortages, shortages for motel rooms, traffic issues trying to get out, etc.

I love WDW as much as anyone, but I would really encourage people who can to stay away. It's a shame to lose vacation time, but it's worse to be causing traffic and other problems for those who may lose everything.

My house on the gulf coast seems to be fine, with just flooding to worry about. But the others, well, not so much. My friend has four small children and a couple of pets and they are leaving their entire house and all of their belongings behind.

Anyway, please stay off of the roads if you possibly can. The parks will likely be closed at some point, so take snacks and water if you feel that you must go to WDW now.

Per CNN, 5 mins ago:

"As Hurricane Dorian crawls toward the US, Orlando Melbourne International Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport both announced they will suspend commercial flights and close their terminals at noon tomorrow."

Hmm... I wonder if that means MCO is gonna follow.
