Hurricane Dorian Forces Disney Dream to Alter Sailings

A change of departure date is not an itinerary change, it becomes a completely different cruise and you're entitled to a refund.. If I booked the 4 Dream leaving on 9/2 and they had to cancel it and could Disney tell me that I had to go on the 3 day Dream leaving on 9/6 instead, take it or leave it? This is no different. If Disney insists otherwise, I would definitely contact an attorney...should be an easy case to win.
Disney is not seeing it that way. They are still considering it the same cruise.

Re routing is one thing. You're changing days. people have flights, rooms, rental cars, etc.... the place we were staying in Cocoa is closing for the storm, so that gives us nowhere to stay tonight and tomorrow night. Now the ship is 2 days later, 2 more nights without a room. And seriously, who wants to go on a 2 day cruise? I know, this is a first world problem, I'm not looking for a handout but I also don't think asking for my points back is unreasonable.
So far the end result is this. We are flying in today, i was able to get a decent rate on a rental(shockingly at last minute), late last night I was able to get a boardwalk room(73 more pts) for 3 nights, so that leaves tuesday night open. We own a condo in Clearwater beach that our renters are leaving on the 2nd, so we will go there til friday when we were due back from the cruise. Of course I lost the 3 day car rental money for the one I rented after the cruise. Still got screwed and if I don't get my points back, I'm probably done with Disney for the rest of my life.
For what people pay to join DVC and the loyalty to Disney that membership demonstrates you would think they wouldn’t want to screw you over.

The Dream is scheduled to visit CC on Tuesday but with Dorian heading for Abaco that seems tenuous.

The storm has been slowing but it seems the storm would still be past Castaway Cay by Tuesday. So the big question is how much damage and how soon would they be ready for guests.

With the slower progress toward the coast, I’m thinking that the re-opening of Port Canaveral might be the bigger problem. It seems that the port could still be impacted even on Wednesday. With the Dream coming from the western Caribbean it might be easier for them to divert to Tampa. That would still allow them to keep the current 5 night/2 night adjustment in place.

I think heard a few years ago the dream and fantasy cannot dock in Tampa as they are too tall and cannot fit under the bridge to get to the port.

We were on the Fantasy and hit Hurricane Sandy. CC was cut and we raced into the hurricane one day early. Cash customers got a 25% off next cruise. DVC got nothing. Yes, I complained. It went nowhere. I told them felt like DVC were just barnacles on the bottom of DCL; they have to drag us along.
Another reason to not book cruises with points. That’s just sad. I am sorry that happened to you, especially being on the ship through Sandy.

There are DVC. rental brokers who will rent your points and book you on the ship with points, that seems to be a better way to cruise using points.

Current models are looking really bad for Castaway. It could be looking at 2 days of major hurricane conditions starting Sun-Tue. Hope it goes north but if it doesn’t it will be at least a few weeks before it is able to be visited I imagine.

Yep—just heard Joe Bastardi talking about the possible impact on the Abaco islands. Yikes. Honestly glad I switched my August 2020 Caribbean to Alaskan. I’m sorry for everyone impacted. It stinks!

We are supposed to leave 9/6 on 3 night dream is it possible we won't be able to dock at castaway cay? Would they turn castaway into a day at sea or anywhere else we could go?
Totally unknown at this point. Castaway is in the direct path currently. Could be a direct hit as a cat 4 which would cause quite a bit of damage and won’t know until it can be assessed. Looks dangerous right now

Didn't CC bounce back from Irma quite quickly? Was that less of a hit?

I *think* Irma was not a 100% direct hit. Could be wrong though.

A lot will depend on how long it takes Dorian (I have known a male AND a female Dorian, so I am not sure if this is a “he” or a “she”...perhaps our first “they” storm?) to move away from Castaway. The longer it takes, the worse the damage will likely be.

For hurricane naming, they alternate male/female. In this case, Dorian is male as the hurricane before it was named Chantal and the one after it was Erin.
