so i just moved down to Texas and this is my first summer here, and of course we had to move to the coast of the gulf. This is my first major hurricane, they are predicting it to be a catagory 5 by the time it goes through the carribean and Central America. It's kind of scary, tomorrow they are going to decide if we need to evacuate, it's kind of scary cuz i'm going to Alabama tomorrow with my moms boyfriend to look at a college and that leaves my mom here with the 2 cats and the very strong dog. there is no way that she will be able to evacuate all of them by herself. and if they do evacuate, there wont be any way to get back cuz they are opening up both sides of the highway to get out. Im kind of scared.

i live in texas and i don't think it will hit us
i think it's going more towards mexico
if your mom has to evacuate DONT GO TO HOUSTON
because everyone will go there
i would go to hunsville, conroe, the woodlands, or sugarland
i live in conroe it's about one hour's drive from houston all we get is rain
it won't flood and your away from all the evacues(sp)
i wish your mom the best of luck

It looks like Jamaica and the Yucutan Peninsula are going to get decimated. All of my fellow employees are from Jamaica and a lot of my dad's employees are from Jamaica so we are watching this storm very closely 1) because they have family down there and 2) because we don't know whether they will have a home to go back to once the season ends.

I'm predicting that it may swing around and hit Tampa.

Everyone there's prepared for things like this....

It might HIT Houston.

But yeah, it looks like it's going to go more to the Brownsville area.

I've lived in Texas my whole life.
Of course, I'm up by Dallas, but nothing has ever been to bad.
But if you do have to evacuate, come further north than Houston.
Everyone'll go there and there won't be a lot of space.

I highly doubt that. There is an area of high pressure preventing it from moving to the LA to FL area. Now if that area of high pressure disapperates then we may be in a bit of trouble, but as of now it is going anywhere.

best of luck with your mom, I honestly didn't know there was a hurricane Dean, the only one I was hearing about was Flossie in Hawaii and I'm in Massachusetts.

If that projection is right then it shouldn't hit us, thank God. we live in beaumont which is a little bit higher than that, and we wont be going to Houston, it floods too easily(obviously, if you have been watching the news lately you would see that it has been under water these past few days.) Just a couple of years ago we got hit by Rita and there is still damage that you can see around town. But we will see. Thanks everyone.

and if it did hit us, it would hit us on my birthday. :(

My Parents were supost to go to New orleans and Mexico. But now because of Dean...

=[

I'm so sorry! I don't have any advice as to where you should go, but good luck to your family.

They can still go to New Orleans.

I feel bad for Cancun and Cozumel. They got pummeled by Wilma.
