hurricane at disney?

Whats the ultimate park hopper ticket

It was what some tickets used to be called. When we took that trip, our tickets were the type that were good from when we arrived until the day we left and also had plusses included.

So the four 1-day tickets that we received are each a park hopping ticket good at any of the 4 major parks as well as the Blizzard beach, Typhoon Lagoon, Pleasure Island, World of Sports, and Disney Quest too I think. HTH :wizard:

We drove up for our disney cruise during one of the hurricanes in 2004 (I can't remember because we had so many in 04 and 05). Anyhow, we were at the Hard Rock hotel and by law once curfew is imposed (the time that authorities deem it too dangerous to be out on roadways) it was illegal to leave the hotel. They set up cots for those without rooms and had games and movies, etc for the kids. The Hard Rock never lost power because it has full generator power which was wonderful. We watched pay per view movies, ate at the special buffets they set up and slept. Not sure if disney hotels are on generator, but everyone pulled together and worked it out.

Turned out that our disney cruise was cut short by one day and the embarkation was changed to Ft. Lauderdale (which is really near where we are from) so we had to high tail it to Ft. Lauderdale to board the ship. Keep in mind that a LOT of people evacuate south Florida and head to the Orlando area to ride out the storm. Orlando is generally really crowded during storms.
Disney has wonderful plans in place to keep their guests fed (simple things) and safe. I also think that if a hurricane is imminent you can cancel your plans with a full refund. They instituted that policy a while back, I think it still applies.

That's where we go. For Jeanne we went to St. Pete but it wasn't as organized there as Orlando so Orlando is back as our evacuation spot. Universal hotels though since we have a pet.

We were there before during labor day week when hurricanes went through, the parks were closed and there was no transportation. But, the food court was running with limited staff and selections. The resort was great though, they brought characters to the resort and walked around the lobby, taking pictures and signing books. They had different characters throughout the day and they play by the lobby tv and tour the main building. The resort was excellent about leaving messages on the room phones frequently to update the status and let you know when the park would reopen so you could prepare. I can't remember but I think they left the MK open later in the evening when it reopened.

anyone ever been there for a hurricane, i know they close the parks , what else do they do ? do they lock you in your rooms can you get a meal ? do you loose power and the t.v. i pitcher people buying up all the drinks and food at the resort food court and stores.

We were there years ago when they closed for a Hurricane. I don't remember much since I was so young, but I do remember they showed movies on a big screen & scheduled other activities for the kids.
It took a lot for them to finally close the parks. I remember running around Epcot with my parents ... ready to blow away at any moment  ... before they gave in & shut down the parks :lmao:

We were staying at the Beach Club when hurricane Jeanee hit in 2004. Parks were closed for one day... We were told to stay in our rooms, but that lasted only a few hours before people headed to the lobby to kill time. Could NOT go outside... That was an advantage of staying at a deluxe resort since you have interior hallways.

We were at OKW during Wilma. Because of the layout of the resort, guests were in their villas riding out the storm; in the hotel resorts, guests were able to congregate in lobbies, restaurants, or any areas inside the buildings.

Since Wilma was forecast, we just bought some extra food at the resort store and stored it in the small refrigerator. We never lost electricity; in fact, we watched TV the whole time. By noon, the parks were getting ready to open (not AKL; due to fallen trees, etc,the animals stayed in their barns that day).

Whenever we visit WDW during hurricane season, we make sure to bring extra reading material, cards, travel games, etc, just in case we're confined in our room.

Disney does hurricanes better than any other place. :thumbsup2 (Certainly better than our own home  )

from what i'm reading from these posts that WDW is the place to be if there is a hurricane. just make sure you have food/drink in the room. and also make sure you are close to the ice machine(s) oh yeah, video tape the winds blowing things if you can. i just hope a hurricane doesn't hit during our vacation but if one does, we will be ready to ride the storm out.
