Huricanes at the Fort

Never EVER plan your trips around hurricane season. Just go and have a good time. They told us it was going to be a bad year for storms this year. We haven't seen anything yet. :beach:

Even though I have never stayed at Disney for a hurricane both me and my DH have worked as cast members for one. The short version is yes you will be moved to a hotel for the hurricane, and I am pleading for those not from hurricane country to please listen to the cast members. We both were put on "security detail" during the worse part. Which means our job was to keep you from going outside. yes hurricanes look cool but there is a reason we won't let you out side during the worse parts. You would be surprised how much we heard "well, I paid X amount of $ to come here" :rolleyes2

How tempted were you to tell them "file your complaint with the Weather Channel!"? :lmao:

We thought Disney handled the whole thing in spectacular fashion. The communication up to the evacuation was spot on, and the evacuation was handled as efficiently as possible under the circumstances. Plus, giving us safe shelter (during which we never lost power), and free passes for OUR inconvenience ... wow! Hard to complain about that ...

Yes, but with all the 'me'ism' that seems to be alive and well, some people will complain about anything/everything. :sad2: :rolleyes1

We were there for Hurricane Andrew. Several times each day someone dropped off an information flyer on our picnic table and it told us, among other things, that we would be notified in the same way if evacuation was needed. (also with staff passing around campground)

Luckily no action was required and we didn't know what happened in Homestead until we bordered the Auto Train for home and heard other people talking.

We had a beautiful sunny day at Epcot while a short distance away people were losing their homes and businesses to the storm. We didn't know (no cell phones, no computer, no TV or radio...) but my brother is a property insurance adjuster and was working in Homestead and area and filled us in when we got home.

We always travel at the end of August/beginning of September (15 + trips) and the worst we have gotten weather wise was the remnants of a tropical storm one year. I wasn't even thinking about hurricanes when we decided to camp this year. I wouldn't mind being put into a hotel, but I wouldn't leave my dog in a kennel during a hurricane. I'm going to see if I can find out what they do with pets in an emergency. I wouldn't have a problem bringing her into a hotel room, she has short hair and doesn't shed much. I would even be willing to pay a fee to have the room specially cleaned, but I would want her with me.
