Humidifier for a nursery... stupid question?

Our house is pretty dry and we have a humidifier in our room. I want to get one for the nursery but I'm not sure if I should get the cool mist or warm mist? I see both advertised on Babies R Us' website . Which is better for a newborn?

I would look into having a humidifer put on your furnace. We just had one installed in our new house and it ran about $500. It's great because it'll go on automatically when needed. Those stand alone ones can start harboring bacteria that would definitely not be good for a baby. If that's not possible I'd go with a cold mist one and make sure you empty and rinse it very frequently. You can even add some vinegar to the water and let it run through to get rid of any buildup.

The cool mist ones are recommended for 'safety'. The warm mist ones do put out some warm mist and to prevent lawsuits they aren't recommended around children. We have a warm mist one and for clearing things up when the kids have a cold, etc. they are SO much better then the cold ones. For everyday use, I don't think it matters that much since the goal is to put some moisture back in the air.

I would look into getting a whole house one as well or a larger one to put in a hallway vs directly in the baby's room.

I had a warm mist in my first son's room and it turned the room into a "rainforest". It made the room very humid. I would go for a cool mist one.

Our pediatrician told us the warm ones would breed bacteria and we should use cool mist. That was over 10 years ago though. I don't know what they recommend now.
