We have a Maltese that is turning 6 this year. We are wanting to throw her another birthday party... but the last one that we threw her was over the top and this time Im looking for something easier and smaller. Our last party we threw for her she turned 3, we had 15 people and about 10 dogs come, we rented out a room at a local doggie daycare. We had games for the dogs, a human and a dog cake, and some food (including sandwiches cut in the shape of dog bones, meatballs, and other snacky foods).

This time I think it will be 8-10 people and only 2 dogs (kinda just family), but Im looking for unique ideas for the human food. Things that look like dog food or fit the theme of a dog birthday party. I have already thought of chex mix and puppy chow snack mix. And of course there is the obvious of hot dogs but I wanted something better.

Any ideas???

Check Rachel Ray magazine or her website she has tons of doggie friendly recipes I've done a few of her dog recipes for my dog and she loves em. We have had doggie smoothy recipes, main dishes and desserts all good.

Please come back with pictures and what you did. My dog turns 10 this year I was thinking he needs a party.

I love Rachel Ray. I think she tells you how to make those recipes two ways -- one version for human consumption and a slightly altered version that is safe for your dog.

Google "bark mitzvah". I'm sure you'll find some cute ideas.

Hold up - you want human food that looks like dog food?

I'll pass.

What, you've never seen the food porn thread before? My dogs food looks better than some of those photos.

Well, you're right about that. That thread is a great diet aid.

Lucky Maltese furbaby, sounds such fun! My DD had a 1st BD party for her Goldendoodle at a near by park. They invited a few of his fur friends, had ball & frizbee games, pooches actually wore HBD hats, and among other treats they made paw print goodies to share. They were the cutest furbabies ever and had a grand time! Good luck!! paw:

I didn't ask for criticism...

And I meant food that could resemble dog food for snacks... Like chex mix, puppy chow recipe (with chocolate, peanut butter, and powdered sugar), sugar cookies cut in dog bone shapes, and meatballs.... I'm sorry please tell me you don't like any of that? Cause I know we do.

I don't like any of that.

While I can't imagine inviting people to a birthday party for our dog if I did I'd be sure to serve some real food (not snacks & sweets) and definitely lots of cocktails!

This seems like a completely nutty idea and not something I would do but you sound like a fun person:rotfl: Good luck with whatever you go with and please update this thread with pics:lmao:

More ideas:

  • Serve the food in mini garbage cans, the way a dog likes to eat.
  • No toilets; have people pee on giant fire hydrants
  • As a game, instead of a sack race or three-legged race, have people scoot on their butts
No chairs; people have to sit on dog beds. If someone sits on the sofa, yell at them to get off it and tell them they're being bad

Most importantly there needs to be a signature Cocktail.

Something called "the slobber" would work for my dogs. But tiny little white puff needs some fancy blingy kind of drink named after her( I'm assuming her could be him)

Hey a party is a party. Have fun!

Since the dogs have absolutely no idea what a birthday is, let alone celebrating by having a party, this is really just an excuse for humans to have a party.

So, why not just have regular party food? And I second lots of alcohol.

And since you asked, no I would not be a fan of your proposed menu. Puppy chow, chex mix and meatballs?

My dog prefers his beef rare. I suggest a barbecue with nice, thick juicy rib eyes. Now that is doggie chow.
