My new step moms dad & his wife and her son and his family were in town from San Diego for their wedding over this past weekend (my dad got married so my family is a lot bigger now ). We hadn't watched tv at all because everything was so hectic and on their way to the airport yesterday they found out that their neighborhood is currently evacuated! My dad lives up in Jenner (a beach community) so there is no cell service, apparently people had been calling but no one could reach them. So they just turned around and went back to my dads to wait it out. They have no idea if any of them even have a house anymore

Oh Kim, I'm so sorry to hear that live in one of the evacuated areas. If they are in Scripps Ranch or south Poway, they lifted the evacuation order on those areas a couple of hours ago, so those areas are fine, and never had any fire nearby. None of my friends nor my parents have lost homes, despite being in the San Pasqual Valley and N. Poway, but it was a very close call for awhile.

hard to imagine (not being from the area) as to how fast & furious the fire is destroying homes; so much to deal with in CA; earthquakes, fires - eek.

Thank you SO much! I am not sure which area they live in (we came home on Sunday night so we're not still with them) BUT I did forward what you sent to my dad & step mom to show them.

I hope all of you who live in or are visiting the area are doing well. My husband just got dispatched to the San Diego area early Monday morning. I am in Oregon so all I know of the fire is what I see on the news. It looks heart breaking. I will keep you in my prayers.

Good luck to your husband! I know how it feels to have a loved one called away in fire situations, while my husband isn't a firefighter my dad is a retired batallion chief. I remember when I was younger and he used to get called away or be out fighting a fire and my mom and I would watch the tv waiting to hear updates or news. They didn't quite have the coverage in the 70's like they do now so sometimes we waited quite a while! I really remember this one time when they were talking about all these hurt fire fighters at a fire we knew my dad was at and I just remember laying in bed all night long praying and praying that it wasn't my dad. Thankfully it never was.

Much respect to your husband and all other fire fighters (and their wives and families) out there!
