well, i got carried away on ebay. won a huge, 54-can california innovations rolling cooler with a pull up bag (on top) for dry stuff. i kept bidding because i will need an ice chest for 10 days in aug at wdw, also changing resorts three times. thought it would a convenient way to transfer food (so i could stock up on my diet rite, etc. with one store trip). also, i thought, why not use as luggage instead of packing it INSIDE luggage. seems like it would work. anyone done this?

As long as it meets airline size requirements, you certainly may use it as luggage. I see all sorts of coolers on the luggage carousel. I've even done it myself with our crushable rolling cooler. We packed it in a suitcase on the way out, then used it for dirty clothes on the way back.

Just consider any potential damage that might occur. All of my worst luggage damage through the years has been flying Delta into Orlando. I don't know what the problem is, but they have severely damaged hardsided "indestructible" suitcases several times. They repair them, but what a pain. Also, I believe wheels are excluded from repairs, so keep that in mind.

I would be very concerned about damage to a very useful piece of equipment. I would do as you have mentioned - pack it inside another piece of luggage. You could use that piece to bring the cooler back and also put momentos of your trip in with it to make the piece of luggage worth taking.

before you leave home. Airlines have luggage weight limits.::MinnieMo
