Huge Fire 1 mile from AK 6/27/2011

Unconfirmed reports of a Meth Lab exploding in one of the rooms causing the fire.

I kind of wondered if that might have been the initial cause, after that's happened fairly recently elsewhere in the area. This place apparently had nothing in the way of fire detecting or fighting equipment that was functional. Unreal. I hope they get it out soon and no one else gets hurt.

Other than smoke inhalation problems, there were no injuries.

It was not a tourist hotel.

It was a 40 year old building that houses lower income families on a long-term basis.

It will be several days until it cools down enough so that investigators can go in.

oh gosh, i just watched the report.....so sad that people who had nothing to begin with now have even less.....

Not anymore but it used to be. As I said, we stayed there I think 3 times on our trips in the past (before we discovered VRBO ).

How awful! When I saw the initial picture I had to wonder if there wasn't some explosion of sorts - what a mess!
