Huge Ebay mistake! Sent item before buyer paid!

My phone pinged off and I thought the buyer paid. I should have double checked. The item sold yesterday at ($150) and I dropped it off at the post office just now and paid $27 for shipping. When I went to mark it shipped I noticed that they didn't pay! Ugh. Should I go back to the post office? Is there anything I could do besides hope and pray that they pay me soon!

I just called and they said it got picked up. I dropped it off at a satellite office in the pharmacy, she said the mail mail brought it back to the main post office. She said to call them on Monday. I really hope they pay me by then!

I do not know much about selling on ebay, so maybe this is not possible....

I would message the buyer and say that you are trying to get orders processed as soon as possible to prevent a backlog of Christmas orders (or some better excuse if you can think of one) and offer a discount (maybe even free shipping) if they pay in the next 12 - 24 hours.

I'd rather lose the shipping than take a chance and end up losing out completely. Plus, I'd like to have some peace of mind as soon as possible. I highly doubt the post office is going to do anything for you. This is a busy time of year and I can't see them wanting to go hunting around for your package.

This would be my concern. People use fake addresses on Ebay b/c they are searchable. You will have no recourse with paypal if you shipped to the wrong address. Unless they pay you and you confirm it is the same address on paypal I would be at the PO right when they open and get the package. They may not like you, but you can get it.

You will know if the person does not pay. PayPal can verify if it has been paid or not. The person owing can not get out of it.

I once had a non-pay, but the buyer had a 0 rating next to her name and I should have known better than to even let her bid.

She never paid.

Yes and they have 19. Most of them are from a long time ago.

I am a long time ebay buyer, on. And off really. I noticed my ebay address is a fake, I am sure I set it up ages ago, and never bothered updating it ... To be honest I don't know how, and I sometimes buy gifts and change ship to.


I hope it works out, 150$ is a lot to ship to the wrong location, or not get paid.

If you haven't gotten paid yet, send them another invoice. Write in the notes "Please let me know the status of your payment.". I do this all the time when I haven't gotten paid in 1-2 days. It's a polite prompt to the buyer.

I agree, its usually in your disclaimer that payment must be made within 24 hours

If it is a bidding auction then the buyer may not know they won it until they look at their email, I wouldn't worry about payment until it has been a few days.

But I would escalate recalling the package with the PO until you know whether you even posted it to the right address.

Thank you. I normally ship Priority and print the labels off of eBay. I'm sure those addys are correct, but this time I wrote down the address off of eBay because it wasn't going priority.

I sent them an invoice last night. Maybe I'll send another tomorrow morning?
