Huge DVC point rental frustration from non-member

....FWIW, I do not think it is too late for us to :grouphug: appologize to the Professional renters driven from this board (except for the few actually burned at the stake), and implore them toreturn and save us all!

Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiissssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss. :charac2:

I hate to disagree but.....

All the commercial renter witch hunts, that have driven most of these fine DISsers and Owners from this site ;) caused this situation to happen! :laundy:

Had any professional renters remained, they would have spec booked the dates the OP needed and been able to meet the OP's rental needs :stir:

Now we have a dissapointed Renter, and in general a person who likes something tells 4 -5 people, while someone who dislikes something tells (complains) to 10+ people.

:teacher: It is simple math, the more people who are disappointed directly due to the dearth of the (We commercial Renters actual prefer the term Professional, BTW) Professional Renter, The DVCs 'reputation' will suffer, ultimately driving DOWN the price of resales.

FWIW, I do not think it is too late for us to :grouphug: appologize to the Professional renters driven from this board (except for the few actually burned at the stake), and implore them toreturn and save us all!

Other than those in the extreme and those couple flipping transfers into rentals, this policy and witch hunt actually helps most renters that are willing to stay in the game. Higher prices, more demand with less competition.

Just a thought - have you thought about SSR? Last year I made a late reservation in February for March and all they had was SSR.

Reservations for SSR seem to be filling up these days. I actually got BCV before SSR off of a waitlist recently. (That said, the Grandstand loooked just about ready to open when we were there a few weeks ago so there may be more rooms soon.)

Ex-ac-a-tac-ly. It's late in the game to be trying to get March '07 and we all know this. I doubt any DVC members are going to be up-in-arms over this. We've booked long ago if we wanted it.

As often as this comes up on this board, a lot of new members don't understand how this works and find it annoying. However, most of them seem to come around when they realize that the rooms available through ARE being used by members - just ones who are using their points to cruise or stay at Disneyland. Since many of us like having the options, we accept the cost. If we want the flexibility to use points other places, this is the cost of non-members getting "our" rooms. Also, most members are aware - or learn quickly - that DVC isn't good for people who can't plan at least a few months out, that the rooms available on points are generally booked to capacity and that if you need a room on short notice flexibility is key.

What I find annoying is not the sense of entitlement (which I do get from the OP and some of her subsequent posts), but anyone who doesn't own DVC telling me what I should be furious about. I don't like it when other OWNERS infer we should all be up in arms over anything. I understood going in that this was not a good choice for "I want to book a room at the Boardwalk in January for a stay in March" and while I didn't understand the CRO thing going in - it does make sense that this is how DVC pays for trades.

Disney Newbie - I don't believing renting hurts anyone - its a nice option for me as a member to have - both if I'm short on points or if I'm not going to use mine this year, but my perception of entitlement comes from believing members (and therefore yourself as a renter) should be entitled to rooms before guests paying cash - true in only the simplistic fashion. Disney does encourage the simplistic belief when they tell people that DVC resorts are available for cash when they aren't booked by members - however, for the most part that isn't really what is going on, its just far easier to say it that way in marketing materials. Also, my perception of entitlement comes from your statement that renting enables you to stay in a nicer resort at POR prices - which it does - but not once the supply is drained. Its interesting, since as a member, there is little difference to me in terms of short term availablity not being there to be occupied by members between a member trading out and DVC turning the points over to CRO or a member renting their points to a non-member. You can pretty much say that Disney CRO is in the business of renting spec reservations (and Dean often makes that point when we talk about Disney limited commerical renting).

I guess I'm being pessimistic but why do I believe your frustration is more about not being able to stay at a DeLuxe Resort for the price of a moderate?

As a BWV owner I've had no problem making my reservations for the time I want to go but then I plan ahead. I already have my October and December 2007 reservations made. The times I've booked at short notice I take what's available. I'm just happy to be at a DVC resort.

Oh, and I do get the sense of entitlement from the OP. She feels that as a owner we should be entitled to a room at our home resort no matter when we call. Yeah, that would work...:rotfl:

And then we should rent that reservation to her. :sad2:

You can't expect to book March at BWV during peak holiday season only 8 weeks earlier. Sorry you don't understand the way DVC works. And you do seem to feel like you should be entitled to the reservation if the room is available to CRO.

If $485 is too rich for your blood, then don't pay that much. Otherwise, plan your holiday a lot sooner and you may get the rooms you are looking for.

And please don't presume that I as a DVC member should be upset that inventory is not there for you as a renter less than 2 months before your desired holiday time. I'm not upset by that at all, because all DVC members are aware that DVC involves long-term planning for your DW holiday.

The rooms available through CRO are not available to DVC because they are of a different inventory. When someone from DVC exchanges a reservation for a non-DVC resort, that inventory ceases to be part of DVC, and becomes available to CRO only. Some DVC person has already used that inventory for a trade, so it isn't there anymore.

Good answer. It doesn't bother me because I know someone got to use those points and rooms for a trade. I like being able to do the trades, and if we wanted to solve the problem that you think it is, we wouldn't be able to have the perks of trading to other places.

Good post.

Didn't mean to upset anyone... DVC owners on this board seem very happy and I am genuinely glad for you. My DH's work schedule does not allow for us to commit to any vacation a year in advance, so perhaps this will never work out for me.

It appears my timing for rental was off, thanks for all your patient explanations...live and learn and off to POR we go...Honestly I am looking forward to it!:thumbsup2

Great post Tony. It also beats the snot out of the bashing others dish out when a newbie does not know how DVC works.

Yea! the DVC board is a great place for "Members" to stroke thier ego. :lmao:

Not really a nerve more like a Ford driver telling someone that owns a Chevy they should be upset about a concieved defect. You have to own to be able to complain about owner situations. That is all.

As to DVC fitting everyone, absolutely not. It does require advance plans for certain times of the year, at others not so much so. Mainly it requires one to be flexible.

As you gathered some are pro Rental and some are not. Neither are wrong just see things differently.

Enjoy your stay at POR, it truly is a fun place. :)
