Well it looks like we may not be going to Disney in April after all. :sad1:

First a window in my kids room started leaking and water got in the wall and mold ended up growing in it. so the kids moved outa there room so i can tear out all that wall (luckly its not that much) then put up new dry wall and such and patch it up and repaint it. my kids whole room needs repainting since they decided to draw all over the walls with everything they can think of! this isnt going to cost as much since im doing it myself.

next thing thats the biggest budget buster is we need a new A/C unit since our coil is leaking freon. thursday we need to get it recharged for the 3rd time. that alone costs $485. im thinking its going to cost about $5000 if we are lucky for a new unit. we were told this unit we have ( a rheem) is one of the best. it came with the house when we bought it. right now we have our ceiling fans going to try and keep it as cool as possiable. we just had 4 fans installed luckly in feb. i kno a person who does it so it only cost $75 to put up all 4!

so hopefully we can get a great deal on a new ac unit so we can still go to disney.

This has been a NO BUY rest of the month for us!! Our fur baby needed surgery---$1300!!!!!!!:scared1::scared1::scared1: Did NOT see that coming:goodvibes

oh that bites!!! It always seems things break before vacation! last year right before our trip our water heater busted, deep freezer went out, microwave, fridge part and I the mini van sucked some $$$ out of us too!!

Do you get those coupon envelopes in the mail? sometimes they have really good specials this time of year on A/C units!! Good luck, I hope it works out!

I am not sure how old your a/c unit is but last year we had the same problem. Our unit was 6 years old then and we chose to just replace the coil. It was way cheaper than replacing the whole unit and the guy said that the compressor should have another 4-6 years before needing replacement. Hope you don't have to cancel your trip.

My parents had the same this happen to their AC unit. It's not a Rheem (I can't remember which it is) but they are having the coil replaced. The price quoted them was around $1600 (Still a big chunk of change, but not as bad...)

HTH! Good luck!

the guy that came out last time to recharge our freon said that we need a whole new unit. im thinking about calling someplace else up and seeing if we can just get the coil replaced. if we spend no more than $2000-$2500 on getting the a/c fixed then that would be great! if it costs less than that then even better! i really hope that guy was just trying to get more money outa us and we really dont need it replaced. cause if we can hold off till 2012 or futher then we can just get a new one. im going to call around monday.

I would definitely get a second or even a third opinion. The first guy who came out told us the same thing that we needed to replace the whole unit. We decided to get a second opinion and this guy said that it is not necessary but strongly recommend that we replace the whole unit. Then we talked to a contractor that we used in the past and he recommended his ac and heating guy. The guy came out and said that our ac unit works fine, and it would be a waste to replace the whole system and just to replace the coil. We just sold that house, and never had any problem since replacing just the coil, and the inspector said that the unit works great. So definitely get at least a second opinion.
