But what's wrong with politics today is religion. I'm not talking about separation of church and state because that has nothing to do with this. I'm talking about the fact that too many politicians (and people in general) today can't put aside their religious beliefs and see that we're all human. We all deserve equal rights. "All men are created equal" and whatnot. So, doesn't that entitle a man (who was created equal to all other men, by the way) to marry another man (again, created equal to all other men)? Or a woman (created equal to all other men/women) to marry another woman (again, created equal to all other men/women)? We were endowed with "certain inalienable rights", right? Those rights are "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness", well, marriage is happy for most people, so why are they being prevented from pursuing it? This country wasn't founded on religious ideals. It wasn't founded on one person being superior to others. It was founded on the idea that people should see other for what they are- simply other people.
