HS CS dinner alternatives (off-site)?

My family and I will be spending a whole day at HS and using the CS dining plan. After reading all of the reviews about how poor the restaurants are, I am a little bit worried about taking our chances with two CS meals there (for lunch and dinner). Are there any good CS dinner places at any of the nearby hotels and if so, are they easy to get to/from HS (I know you can take a boat from HS to a few hotels and back...any other options?)?

Or, is it just not worth the time and trouble, and we should try our luck at HS for both meals out of convenience?

Thanks for any comments/suggestions,

Evan

Even though others on here don't seem to like the ABC Commissary my family and I have never found anything wrong with their food, so I would recommend it as one of their cs locations that you should try.

I also like the ABC Commissary, especially the Curry Chicken.

Also, Pizza Planet isn't bad, but all they have is pizza.

DS6 always chooses Pizza Planet and its not bad. We are not fans of ABC Commissary but we have eaten there on occasion. I don't know if I'd necessarily venture out of the park just for a CS meal. There's nothing really close. You could take the boat to Epcot or the Epcot resort area but that's a lot of wasted time (the boat is SSLLOOOWWW). And there's not a lot of choices for CS in the Epcot resort area either (Hurricane Hanna's at BC, Marketplace at BC, pizza window at Boardwalk--not sure what's in the S&D).:confused3 I'd just stick with DHS if it were me.

My daughter really likes the Backlot Express. We've never had a problem finding a variety to eat here.

The commissary is good - in fact I think it's one of the best places to go for a CS breakfast.

Also across from Beauty & the Beast show (can't remember the name) there's a food area with frest fruit and a couple of CS options. I remember getting a good hamburger there.

And Starring Rolls is a good place to use thise snack credits if you like pasteries. Last year we got this humongous cupcake for my son using a snack credit.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

It sounds like it's not just worth the hassle of trying to go off-site and just go with the options at HS. My family and I are not picky eaters, but when you hear some people say that the hamburgers at ABC commis (I think that was the place) are disgusting, kind of makes me worry...how can you mess up a hamburger???

We'll probably go with starring rolls for one meal and then go with whatever for the second. It sounds like Fairfax Fare might be a good second choice...

Thanks again,

Evan

I will have to go against the trend of some on here who recommend ABC Commissary This was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever encountered in a restaurant anywhere. The "overwhelming" negative response to this place is well deserved. This is the only restaurant in WDW I can say was absolutely miserable, and was unanimous with my family. We all ordered different items and they all ended up in the same place: the garbage can. :sad2:

I personally opt out of eating at HS; however, if you must eat in the park I would go to Starring Rolls instead. It is not great, but it is average and is edible.

Please, for those of you who enjoyed this place, this is not a personal attack of your taste or experience there. This is merely my opinion of ABC based on my own personal experience with it.

There was just a thread on CS at HS last week (I asked because we are going to spend a Star Wars Weekend there) and one of the suggestions was to take the boat to the boardwalk and hit the Bakery, Hurricane Hannah's, or the Beach Club Market place.

It's really going to depend on your individual taste and not those of everyone else on this board. An argument can be made that all hamburgers at WDW CS are disgusting (and if you don't like multigrain buns you won't like theirs). Pizza isn't excellent or even really good, but it's okay for mass-produced pizza, there just aren't a lot of choices regarding what you can get ON the pizza. Many reviewers on the boards balk at the prices charged for pedestrian fast-food fare, but that's what things are going to cost at WDW.

There are alternatives at most CS that are not typical fast-food offerings, take a look at the menus and see if you find anything appealing.
