HRH: Should I book hotel room only or package?

We are going Sept 1-4. Is there an advantage to booking a package vs just a hotel room? I see that two (connecting hopefully) rooms for 3 nights will be $1428.

Does this look like a good price?

No advantage to a package other than you can reserve breakfast at Three Broomsticks.

We used to book a package but now do room only and buy the tickets separately. The package was actually more expensive and the only thing you got extra was a free picture on one of the rides. We book through AAA and get a room discount and a discount on the tickets. If you are a AAA member you also get a 10% discount at the park restaurants, snack carts, and most shops (probably not anything in WWOHP). The discount is also good at City Walk restaurants, except the high end ones like Emerils. Do keep in mind that if you are going to have a car there is a fee to park at the hotel for each night - also make sure if you do have a car that they only charge one room the parking fee (we have had them double charge in the past).

Interesting comments. I am looking at booking for late August and it appears the package (just hotel and tickets) comes out about the same, maybe $5-10less for the package. The hotel rates are the exact same, it looks like the ticket prices might be a tiny bit lower. Of course, that is based on full Universal price for tickets and not through a discounter, which may well be cheaper...Just some food for thought!

For my dates, the package was much more expensive. And we didn't get the Florida resident rate for it, so we booked a room only package and will be buying tickets through AAA.
