I have always stayed at Disney. This year I would like to try one of these. Which would be better for 2 DDs ages 9 and 12? We would like a room that is close to the pool. We love a great pool. Which would be better?? Thanks for any info....corvair amy

Amy, I know your having a time deciding where to stay we all go through this. I can't recommend one over the other because I've only stayed at PBH. I'm sure others can tell you all about the HRH. The biggest thing for me and my family is we like rooms with balcony's so that was the deal breaker for us. I'm sure you would love them both. If you have any specific questions about either I feel quite sure we can all help you out. Have you check for availablilty at both for your dates? I know for us there was no choice as the HRH (which is where we were headed) was sold out and so was RPH during the dates I needed so we ended up at PBH and we were very very happy there. Can't wait to get back where counting down the days in short order now!!! Love to help if you need anything.

Amy check out the post about the PBH w/balcony rooms thread. If you read down the posters there is one about three down that posted a link to some wonder pic's of the beach pool at PBH now if that does'nt get you excited I don't know what will>LOL

Tammy ,,, thanks for your reply. We are going in May. I did not make ressies yet. I am just trying to research all I can about Universal resorts. We also like a balcony. I am looking forward to reading your posts when you come back. I will problably book using the entertainment rate if possible. I am also going to get a Loews first card. These boards are great.... thanks...amy

I have to recommend the HRH with kids of those ages. The Hard Rock has the pool with the underwater sound system, and they play music throughout the hotel that my 14 and 16 year old like. During our stay, they had a dive in at the movies: they have a huge screen playing a hit movie, and the kids sit around or float in the pool. My kids also liked the Beach club for snacks, and since we got upgraded to club level, enjoyed those snacks as well. There is a lot of rock memorabilia to see, and the whole atmosphere is laid back and fun. There aren't balconies, but my kids wouldn't have stopped to sit on them anyway. They also had a lot of pool activities, and beach volleyball. Oh, it also looked like they had a pretty good pool slide as well.

We've stayed at the PBH with our kids (in a kid suite) when they were 5+9 and in a 2br suite when they were 7+11. Both times they loved the hotel. DH and I appreciate the quiet atmosphere after a noisy day in the parks! We also enjoy the restaurant choices there. But you certainly can't go wrong with either!

Do both resorts have a pool slide. I know HRH has a long slide. How about PBH? Which resort has easier access to the pool?? thanks...corvair amy

Amy, both hotels have pool slides. The pools at PBH are very easy to get to. We stayed on the 6th floor east villa and from our room it took maybe 2 minutes to get, ride and be at the pools, villa and beach. PBH has three pools, we never got around to seeing the third. We had pool view rooms maybe that's why it was nothing to get to the them. Also these rooms are quick acess to the boat loading area it's a very, very short passage by the beach pool and your there.

We stayed at the HRH and my 13 year old daughter thought it was the best hotel we have ever stayed at. We did walk over to the PB so we could check it out for future visits and we asked to see a room. Rooms look comparable to me, pool slide is longer at HRH and main pool is bigger. HRH is a more upbeat atmosphere while PB struck me as more sophisticated. The other selling point for the HRH is the short walk if you do not want to wait for the water taxis or if they are crowded. You can't go wrong at either as both are exceptional properties.

I picked PBH over HRH based on rate. HRH seems to have higher occupancy, therefore less availability of discounted rates.
