Arrived at HRH Wed. afternoon and stayed at club level for the first time ever!! Easy check in, but long line, it was about 12pm so there were a few check out people in line too. Room was not ready (expected), so went to Universal and rode Mummy (Great) x2 and did MIB x2, then to IOA and rode Hulk x2 and Spidey once. Got the call about the room at 3pm. Room was ok, starting to show some wear and tear, smelled a little of cat pee, but didn't complain. Lit a candle instead.
Ate at Hard Rock Cafe, no wait at 7pm, but upstairs was open. Sat in a booth under Janis Joplins "naked" photo, so had a conversation about her ****s during dinner
. Inexpensive, had steak fajita (good) about $15, burger (good) about $10. Plus drinks of course.
Thurs spent day in both parks, no lines but used FOTL anyway. Went to Margaritaville. Nachos (Very big, Awesome) $9 and coconut shrimp (good) $13. Sat outside on patio, was a little confused. Was over at a bench looking out to city walk, and we got no server, so had to move to a table. Once we got someones attention service was good. It was a seat yourself and even tho the parks were not full, the patio was. Thursday went to HHN at about 7pm, waited until dark. They were checking bags and had metal detectors, no problems, but they were not out during the day. Place was packed, I'm used to going at off peak times of year, but was prepared. Paid the extra $25 for express and happy as heck I did. We waited no more than ten minutes at any house. The lines ranged from 2 hours (body collectors) to 45 minutes. This was my first HHN and it was what I expected. It could have used a few more walk abouts raising hell, but it was cool. There were a lot of bars and every one had a line. Got a HHN refill drink glass $9 original, $6 refills. Came in handy in some of the real smokey areas because it had lights on it. Shared it so it was not so hard on the pocketbook filling up every 15 minutes.
My biggest complaint about HHN was the disconnection between the houses in the sound stages and the rest of the park. There was a long walk with no atmosphere at all. A missed opportunity IMO. Were was the werewolf or Frankenstein for Petes sake? The crowds were pretty well behaved for all the alcohol around ( I did consume, but in moderation as any adult should!) and there were some drunk people, one stopped at a garbage can waiting to hurl, and a girl falling down in the bathroom. But no "rowdy" crowds or anything like that. A few younger kids, but very sparce.
Friday was cabana day!!
. The weather was sunny, but chilly, 71. Had Jeffery as a waiter, and he was fantastic!! Long dreds in ponytails! Kept my eye on spending, the drinks were about $8. Had lunch, chicken panini $10 (I didn't like it) Popcorn shrimp $12 (good) , Went back at night for Dive in movie. Was supposed to be Hocus Pocus, but it was Nightmare Before Christmas. Our new waiter wanted to give us another fruit basket, maybe she didn't know we were there during the day. Maybe she felt bad because we had to go up to the bar for them to send someone over. Didn't care, there was hardly anyone outside so it's not like she was walking around and ignoring us. Had a few more drinks and a Pizza $10 (surprisingly good). Topped it off with ice cream from The shoppe downstairs, banana split $7 (Very good ice cream, but it was huge, could have fed 3 or 4 peolpe, no kiddding).
Sat. I went to the gym. Great experience. Small, but everything you need for a workout. Spent the morning in the pool and afternoon in the parks. Longer lines than during the week. FOTL came in handy. Went to Halloween story night in the lobby. Short but very entertaining. Confusing because they had a misprint on the ad poster for showtimes. There were about 50 people trying to get into a small area set for 30 people. We all pretty much squeezed in, Early night. Tired.
Sun. Went to a friends house by the water and they came back for HHN. Rented a scooter for a friend getting back surgery in a few days and that was smooth. Rented from the hotel. My friends noticed the cat pee smell right away, and it did get stonger as my stay went on. I was leaving the next day, so I just lit my candle again. Had another great HHN, got thru all the houses w/express again. Crowds a little larger than Thurs night, but managable. Ate at Confisco Grille at about 10:30pm. Pasta $12 (good), burger $10 (good).
Never made it to Bill and Teds. tried but full by the time I got there for the last show Thurs night. It was full 20 minutes before showtime!
Monday was check out. Went thru both parks and did all the main rides. Went to Mythos for lunch. No wait, but full for amount of people in park. Chicken Wrap $10 (Very good), and Burger $9 (good).
Summary:
Enjoyed HRH club level... breakfast was the same everyday but did the trick, cereal, bagels, toast, fresh fruit, pastries. 5-7 pm fairly good wines and good beer selection, some of the eats were greasy, soggy or warm not hot. Cheese / crackers and veggies everynight was the savior there. Only had cookies one night. Don't know if they had anything else. If you have others in your group that stay in the room for breakfast, ask for a tray. They have them but do not put them out.
I should have complained about the cat pee smell as it got worse. Some of the guests liked to cut in line at feeding time in the lounge. There were a lot of kids running around. These things I can live with. Annoying but not devastating. The best advice I can give: If you go to HHN, get the express passes before they sell out. It was a pleasure to go to the park, even with all the crowds. We could have never seen all the haunted houses both nights without it. It was worth every penny!
Any questions, please ask!!!! Thanks for reading!!
