Highlight between the **** to see a spoiler (ETA: OK, it's a minor speculation!) from an interview from JK Rowling...

Here's a link to the entire interview.

"...Asked about the wisdom of killing off fictional characters, Rowling said she didn't enjoy killing the major character who died in book six -- for the sake of those who haven't read it yet she avoided naming the victim -- but she said the conventions of the genre demanded the hero go on alone..."

(And I was hoping it was a hoax and the character had survived after all!)

I think you should consider changing the title of this thread - I didn't read the hidden spoiler, but just from reading the title (which I had no choice about), I now have that idea in my head.

Ok, I see you changed the title, but it still gives away the same info, and now the spoiler isn't even hidden anymore in your post.

Sorry! I realized that myself and changed it as you were replying!

Those who have read book 6 know who I'm talking about; the spoiler is for book 7. But then I realized there may be some out there who haven't read book 6 yet. My apologies to all.

I read her comments as saying that the character who died in book 6 is definitely dead. "The hero must go on alone..."

No, the character that got a reprieve is someone she was going to kill in book 7 and now isn't. She talks about this in a different interview and her comment was more elaborate in that interview and definitely not the one to whom you are referring. It's not to say he may or may not survived, it is just not him she was talking about.

OK, I disagree that it gave away the same information but I changed it again anyway! And I fixed the color issue.

I'll go hide under my rock now. We need a smiley for that.

Thanks, Barb, that's much better now - anybody who doesn't want to know can just avoid opening the thread and they'll be all right. :thumbsup2

The book has been out for over a year, if people want to read it they would have read it by now or if they haven't read it by now then they really shouldn't be complaining about spoilers on websites. It would be different if the book just came out but it has been over a year. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

The spoiler I was posting was for Book 7, but I can understand not wanting the details from Book 6 revealed if you hadn't had a chance to read it yet. It is a BIG book!

I don't think you did anything wrong OP - Book 6 has been out for over a year, it's silly to expect people to protect "spoilers" for that amount of time. And I didn't really think there was anything "spoilerish" in regards to book 7 either, just speculation.

Just to clarify, the spoiler that was originally in the title of this thread had to do with something that may or may not happen in book 7, not book 6. The OP changed it, and I appreciated it very much. Also, I don't really don't even care if there are spoilers for book 7 inside the thread, I was only asking that it be removed from the title.

I'm still not understanding why this is considered a spoiler. If you've read book six, most people assumed this. Only the conspiracy theorists disagreed. Did you change what the original spoiler was?

I read the OP before she changed it, it was not a spoiler, JKR has said the same thing in other interviews and she is not referring to the person that died in book 6. She clearly stated that in other interviews so what the OP posted at first is not a spoiler. There are speculations all over the place about what happened in book 6 not being what it seems but I don't buy it personally.

Should I ask JKR to clarify this tomorrow night when I see her at Radio City? :woohoo:

;) Is anyone else going?

and here I thought you had a really cool spoiler...somthing i didn't know...bummer....

LOL thats not much of a spoiler. I mean The character who dies in the 6th book is vital to the outcomings of the 7th book.

ok i officially hate you :guilty:
(can i come?) :rolleyes1 :wave2:

Well gee, it sounds like only litebrite was spoiled - just color me totally and completely confused :confused3

I appreciate that the OP came and posted, I just wish I had read it sooner!! Before you fixed everything (and I do appreciate all the efforts you've made to please all the people!!)

about that Radio Music Hall fundraiser - do come and spoil that - I had a friend that went tonight, and she was too tired to tell me anything (other than Whoopi didnt get political!!! Neither did the others that introduced people... Hope that the fundraiser raised a lot of money for a really great cause!!)

OK, let me set the record straight here. Now I'm wishing I just hadn't posted this thread at all.

My original subject line was something like, "Did Dumbledore survive? Spoiler from JK Rowling interview."

Then I realized that if someone hadn't read book six yet, they wouldn't have known that Dumbledore had died. So I changed the subject line to something like, "Did the major character who died in HP6 survive..." But Litebrite still thought it spoiled too much.

With either of those titles, people would have realized that it wasn't a huge spoiler, just a minor bit of speculation. (I just changed the subject line yet again.) And yes, I was one of those conspiracy theorists who was hoping against hope that Dumbledore would show up in HP7, so to me it was a spoiler.

So, again, aplogies to those who didn't like the spoilers for spoiling anything, and apologies to those who were expecting a spoiler for not spoiling anything. I'm going to go eat some worms. Where is the smiley for that?

Barb, thanks for posting this. I just realized something about this this morning. All along I was thinking of your original thread title as a Book 7 spoiler, because, when I first read it, I thought you heard a rumor somewhere that Dumbledore was still alive, which if it was true, would be a huge spoiler for that book. However, apparently you and everyone else thought that I meant it was a spoiler that you were posting that Dumbledore had died.

I guess we've been talking at cross purposes all along, and I'm sorry if I made you feel bad. If it had really been true that Dumbledore was going to be revealed to be alive in Book 7, I just didn't want that information to be in the title where people couldn't help but read it - I never cared if you told people he was dead.

No wonder you were all confused about that crazy LiteBrite who's got her panties in a wad about revealing Dumbledore's death! :rotfl2:
