Question for you pros... going to HP 1st week in August, staying offiste, planning on being there for the line up by 7:30. Heading to FJ 1st then other rides... thinking of bypassing the shops until late evening when hopfully crowds thin out... thinking of maybe walking over to city walk for lunch, like Margritaville..take a rest and cool off
does that sound like a good idea? is it to far to walk back an forth? will they be packed around 11 or so for lunch?

Margaritaville would be a great place to cool off around lunchtime. It's a very short walk from the entrance of IOA to the restaurant and you can make reservations that morning at the CityWalk kiosk across from the theater when you come in.

If you are staying onsite, is it necessary to make reservations at any restaurant down there (in the parks, City Walk, or at the resorts)?

Not really and onsite guests get priority seating at CityWalk...just show your room key. If you want to go to a certain restaurant and you don't want to wait for a long time, make a reservation either at the kiosk or the hotel can help you. Also...if you go early like 11am or so the lines at the restaurants should be not be bad at all.
