I definitely think no 7 was the best book as it tied up loads of questions and I really liked the epilogue, thought that finished the book brilliantly. The stories are complete but that is not to say Joanne Rowling may wish to make more stories in the future which I think was a sensible decision, she has left an avenue open should she wish to pursue it.

I think we all expected it to be Harry, Herminone or Ron. I think perhaps she just meant Harry and Voldemort because they are major characters. Lot of minor characters died.

I was pleased to see Neville killing the snake. After the fortune teller's tale about a boy being born in July would lead to Voldemort's downfall in an earlier book and the wizards not knowing if it was going to be HP or Neville and it turned out that both were significant in the downfall of Voldemort. Clever stuff.

I finished it last night - I had to read it in two sittings Saturday and Sunday evening as Joseph isn't really into allowing daddy to just sit and read all day at the moment

I have to admit I found the first half of the book a bit slow at times, I was just willing it to move onto them progressing the quest and explaining some of the unkonwns that JK Rowling had left hanging from the other books. I was also a bit disappointed at the end, not with the ending itself but with the abruptness of it. I think I would have liked to hear a bit more about how the characters felt following the climax and what they went on to do. The epilogue just served to confiirm what most people would have guessed would probably go on to happen.

One question I would like answered though (maybe I missed it, I haven't checked) is where did Neville get the sword from. My assumption is that he used his knowledge of the Room of Requirement to obtain it?? Did I miss something or if I didn't does anyone else have any theories??

It came out of the sorting hat, so I guess it magically returned after the goblin had run off with it..

I had the same question, where did he get the sword? Maybe Voldemort or Bellatrix brought it with them and he just grabbed it?

I can't stop thinking about the book, it was just so good! I cannot wait to see this movie, especially the scenes at Gringotts!

I think it appears when you need it via the sorting hat, it appeared like this in the Chamber of Secrets. One thing is for sure you can guarantee J Rowling will have answered that question in a previous book. There are so many hidden gems when you re read previous books, little things make more sense when you go over them again.

I was also really pleased that Neville got to kill the snake. Like it said in COS, only a true Gryffindor could pull the sword out of the sorting hat. I wish he'd led to Bellatrix's downfall as well though.

Yep like a previous poster stated, Neville pulled the sword out of the hat because he was a true Gryffindor.

Dobby's death broke my heart. "Here lies Dobby, a free elf"

Also, the part where Harry is walking to his certain death had me in floods too. Amazing!

JK Rowling has said in an interview on US TV that she's going to write an encyclopedia tying up all the loose ends and telling you what happened to all the characters. She says they all had timelines but for editorial reasons most of it never appeared in any books.

She also said she intended to kill Arthur Weasley in book 5 but didn't have the heart!

I certainly think she has left many avenues open to continue writing more books, either with the new generation or with prequels about the older generation (bit like Star Wars). Who knows what the future may bring, J Rowling certainly doesn't need to write but it is part of her so she may not be able to resist storytelling some more.

That sounds like a good idea. I thought she could write diarys of some of the other characters telling key points of the story from their point of view.

I couldn't believe she killed Fred Weasley! I thought it would be Percy.

I prequel could work she could start with the year James Potter etc started Hogwarts.

Got our books when we were at DTD on Saturday and had finished them by the Sunday night! So glad we planned a rest day that day! Loved the book and we also went to see the new film when we were in WDW.

Finished yesterday and I agree that it was slow to start with but once the action started I couldn't put it down The only problem I had was my 9 year old DD read the last few pages and told me It makes me now want to reread all the other books as things will make more sense now!

I know what you mean, I have started reading Book 6 again, thought I would go back wards for a change. It does make a difference when everything is fresh in your mind and you can pick up references easily.
