HP and the Deathly Hallows

My nine year old loved it! At one point, he came up about 8" out of his chair...we've read the series as a family, but he didn't remember what was going to happen.

Personally, I think many 8 year olds could handle the movie. Younger than that, it would certainly depend upon the child. If the child is familiar with the series and has read or heard all 7 books I'd be much more likely to take them than if not.

The movie downplayed a lot of the worst stuff from the book, thankfully. Not sure how they'll be able to do that with part 2, tho. Surely they can't have ALL the deaths take place off screen. Guess we'll see come summer.

As an aside, about 80% of the audience at our 7 pm show were kids my older son's age...15...kids who grew up with the series. I don't know most families decided to not mess with opening night craziness or if it isn't attracting families.

The crowds for the later shows seemed more rabid. The folks waiting in the lobby as we left included lots who were in costume! My older son used to dress up...but that ended years ago!

where in the book did they leave off the story in the film?

I loved it! I was concerned how they would deal with Ron's character because he seems to be just comic relief in the movies, but I loved what they did with him.

I just got back from seeing it a second time! It flew by! Still *LOVE* it! I went to see it at the IMAX this time, at a 4:20pm showing, and there were maybe 15 of us in the whole, humongous theatre!! (NOT that I'm complaining!) There were only 3 people in line waiting for the next show. I'm thinking most families are waiting for the Holiday weekend to see it. A nice after-dinner activity.
