I've been putting in umpteen hours sewing costumes for our school musical-there are 78 costumes total, and I've probably done 95% of them, using some donated scraps of fabrics, but quite a bit of my own supplies. I'm getting down to the bottom of my fabric supplies, but the costumes are turning out pretty good. I even got someone to work one of my p/t job shifts so I could stay home and sew. Well..........I get a phone call from the music director telling me that the trim I used on one of the Mesopotamian costumes shouldn't have had gold in it because that wasn't historically correct-remember, this is an elementary school production:rolleyes: AY -yi-yi! Some people:rolleyes: Then she leaves a note on my desk that she needs 5 more costumes by tomorrow, and to "just make anything for them" Okay, I just have to keep telling myself, it's all for the kids........

 That would be sooo frustrating!
No Good Deed Goes Unpunished!
Just keep repeating that it's all for the kids~all for the kids~all for the kids~

Kteacher~ That stinks!:(

Few people would have done all the work that you've done. Wait until you see the children up on stage wearing the costumes that YOU made, quite an accomplishment IMO. You are doing a good thing. ::yes::

And after it's all done, I think my sewing machine would have to suffer from some sort of terminal ailment. ;)

"Not historically correct" Give me a break, it's grade school, and if anyone is inspecting the costumes for historical accuracy, then we have bigger problems.

I bet they are all going to look fabulous. Congrats to you for taking on such a huge job and doing so well at it.

It's hard to not do things for the kids isn't it. People who don't sew have no idea how much time goes into just one piece let alone 78! Kudos to you for taking on this job.

Make sure you take photos and add them to your portfolio if you have one.

Maybe you should tell her that they didn't have sewing machines back then and you've decided it is not ethical for you to use modern machinery to sew them. "I'm sorry maam, I'd like those costumes back..."

Really, what a great thing you are doing for those kids!

tell her the lighting and sound system are not historically correct..

I envy your talent for sewing. What a nice thing for you to do for those kids.

How about responding by saying "You know, you have a point. So go right ahead and fix the costume yourself so that it meets historical standards. I'm still busy sewing the other 78 costumes."

I surely hope you're not using any synthetic fibers because afterall that wouldn't be historically correct either  . There's just no pleasing some people. Just know that there will be a lot of kids and a lot of parents grateful for all your hard work.

Well, of all that nerve! After you're pouring your heart and soul into costumes for the children and here she is criticizing you. That's terrible.

BTW, the children will so enjoy their costumes that you'll know it's been all worthwhile. What an achievement!

Please tell us this music teacher is straight out of college. I can't imagine a veteran teacher complaining about all the work you've done! What a great thing you're doing for the kids., whether they're athentic or not!;)

TC:cool:

Boy that was a quick switch from " not historically correct" to "just put them in anything"!

Bless your heart. I would have had to say something nasty to the musical director.::yes:: She should be glad that you are making costumes. To top it off, you had nobody volunteering to help you. I bet the kids will be pleased with your work.:D
