How's the Weather?

G'day from Canada. Just thought I'd pop on in to the UK board to ask a friendly question -- what has your summer been like this year? The reason I ask -- DD, DW and I are flying to LHR on Labour Day and visiting Bath, York, the relatives in Merseyside, London, and 4-5 days in Paris. DW has no idea of what to pack for this trip.

The BBC long range forecast for September is suitably vague to allow most anything to happen -- suggesting warmer and dry in the south of England up to Sept. 12. What are the other forecasters saying for September? Any help is most appreciated.

Hi there,

Well the weather has been a bit appalling this summer down here in the South West (about 80 miles from Bath, one of your destinations).

There has been the odd really nice sunny day where you are looking at vest top and shorts weather but there has been lots of rain :(

Generally it has not been cold at all but be prepared for wet weather gear!

Sorry that's probably about as unhelpful as the BBC weather forecast was.

I hope you very much enjoy your visit :) :)

Karen

So far this summer one word sums up our weather - WET :)

I've found some website that give long term forecasts (or should that be guesses LOL ):

I would guess that the forecasts - although 'vague' are accurate; with the British weather anything can happen LOL

I would pack for warmish days with possible showers and cool nights. In September you may even get the odd cold night/morning with temps. dropping to just above freezing if the nights remain clear!

Hi!

....The "Great British Summer" has lived up to low expectations once again :(

The phrase "A mixture of sunshine and showers" sums things up really.

September? - can be suitably vague although we have been known to have an "Indian Summer" but don't bank on it.

So - don't pack suncream, shorts and T-shirts - or heavy down-filled jackets - go for something like a fleece.

Folks,

Yep -- looks like the shorts will get left at home. Seems like I'll be able to pack for the UK in September in exactly the same fashion as I packed for Germany in May.

Thanks for the help folks.

... yup, that about sums it up! ;)

I remember on our first trip to WDW we didn't leave the hotel without a backpack containing sweaters, waterproofs, suncream, etc., etc. "just incase". I couldn't get out of the British way of catering for all eventualities and it took me quite a few days to appreciate how the 'locals' were able to step out of the hotel with nothing more than the clothes they stood up in! :sunny:

I hope you have a wonderful trip to the UK :)

I'm suprised you found that a problem Hilary - in Wales you just have to dress for rain :)
