My DH, DD12 and I are thinking of making our first trip to southern CA next year to visit my sister and nephew who recently moved to Irvine. We're debating between February vacation week or the end of July. I prefer 80's plus (and no rain!!) in which case July would be better but February would work better with our schedules. I'm assuming the crowds wouldn't be any worse during Presidents week compared to late July? I guess I'm hesitating on going in February because of the weather...granted, here in Maine we'll be snowbound in 10-20 degree weather so anything would be improvement but I sure would like to see sunshine and 70's. :sunny: Twice this year we were in Florida and cold fronts came through and we had only high 40's in January and low 60's just a couple of weeks ago...not the kind of weather I want when I go on vacation which is why I'm thinking February in CA isn't for me?!! :confused3

February is in our rainy season, so there's a very good chance you'll see rain if you come then. That means no fireworks or Fantasmic if it's raining.

IceSkateJen,
What about crowds? I know there is no way to predict but we are thinking of planning our first trip to DL over President's Day weekend. (We have always gone to WDW....) Any suggestions? Thanks!

The only time i have ever gone to Disneyland and changed my mind about being there was during a presidents day weekend. It was so bad that we left. Not a big when you have a pass, but it is an hour drive from our house. I think it was a Valentines day weekend that weekend too, it was a nightmare, probably more than 8 years ago.. I haven't been recently on the holiday, so I would wait to hear what others have to say.

It will be crowded over the weekend & the holiday. Are you going to be there a few days before or after the holiday? Those days won't be as bad, but Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon will all be crowded. Summer is also crowded, so it really depends on what works best for you. I went in 2002 the week before President's day and we waited maybe 5-10 minutes on the rides, if that. We wore sweatshirts in the early AM and in the evening, but were in shorts and t-shirts during the day. Weather can vary, but for us it was a great time to go and I'd go again in February.

Oh man I didn't even realize that is Presidents Day weekend and have the whole trip almost planned. If the crowds are that bad then I think I might be better off rescheduling for the following weekend. Glad I came across these boards and this post before booking our rooms. :flower:

I would stick with July if you are most interested in good weather. As far as crowds, I can't think of any schools in this area that get the entire week off for President's holiday. We have always had just 2 days off - one for Lincoln and one for Washington.

Tink 33 - silly question alert! - in Texas we only get one day off for BOTH Presidents (don't tell the kids that Ca gets 2 days!) SO do you guys have off Friday & Monday or Monday & Tuesday?? Trying to decide which days to come......As a sort-of spin-off is MLK weekend in January any better?? :earboy2:

I just checked the school calendar on-line (isn't technology great?) and we have Friday the 17th and Monday the 20th off in February 2006. Some years we have had two Mondays off.

So is that whole week that the holiday falls in busy?? Or just that weekend that attaches to the holiday?? We arrive on the 21st and leave the 27, so i'm just curious which weekend your saying is busy??
Thank You!
