Asking for my sister ~ it'd be her, her DH, their 2 sons *4 & 2* + BIL's brother, his DW and their 3 kids ~ ?5/6?, 4 & a under 1. They'd drive down on a Tues and spend Wed-Fri in the parks. Is there any part of the month to avoid? We've never been in May ~ I imagine it'd be a nice time to visit.

I would go early since they just announced Star Tours 2 to open on May 10th and that is going to create crazy crowds. I would expect The Little Mermaid to open right in there too. If you want to ride those new rides then later in the month to at least let some of the crowds die down.

Disney starts the grad nights May 10 or 11. This is jsut the first date I saw. As in past there will be more dates when they close park and open back up for graduates. I'm taking my daughter, son-in-law and my two grand kids May 5 -10 2011. I know the 8th is mother's day but we can deal with that. I also think one day is Bat's day-- gothic dress for visitors. Forum did state that Bat's day does not really effect park.

Hope this helps

We went the first week of May in 2010 and LOVED that time of year. Weather was pleasant and crowds were low.

The only negative is that evening shows are weekends only in DL and that a good handful of rides are down for refurb. For us, that is a great trade-off because I don't like crowds.

We were there on the Goth day. Crowds weren't any higher than the others but there were a lot of goths. It was pretty cool actually to see the way folks dressed....some amazing looks. And, most of those folks weren't hanging out doing the rides we were doing (we have young kids).

I'd highly recommend early May. :)

I'm in the process of setting up a trip from May 4th -8th for our first trip to DL (been to WDW several times). Already have the HoJo room booked; now I need to work on air travel from Portland.

DS will be 17 months at the time of his trip, and since his bedtime is 8pm, we aren't at all worried about the early closing time or the lack of post 9pm entertainment. This will be his first trip to any Disney park, so I guess that we'll get to learn all about the rides for small children now. Looking trough the ride lists, it looks like DL might actually have more of the younger kids rides than WDW in any case.

Does anyone know which day Goth day will be? I'm hoping we get to see it.

I went the week of the 20th a couple of years ago. It wasn't super crowded, but it was busies than I expected.

I went for a solo trip in mid-May last year a couple of weeks before WoC opened, and thought it worked out pretty well. I did hit some rehabs (most notably Splash Mountain) but with judicious use of Fastpass (and the occasional finding an extra one on the ground) and single rider lines I was able to get in plenty of rides over the course of three days.

We went in very late May/early June and thought that it was great. Never felt that we waited too long for anything except Peter Pan, but that always has a long line and had only re-opened after a refurb the day we rode it. The weather was good, grey in the morning though and fining up during the day. A little cool at night where we needed a light jumper. Apparently it is called grey May and June gloom, but like I said by mid morning it was great- not too hot, not too cold. Whenever you decide to go, have a great time! :goodvibes

Do you think the crowds will start on the actual opening day of the ride or the weekend after? I've heard it was chaotic when nemo opened.

We have been during the first week of May and it was wonderful, but with Easter being so late this year, I might not do that this year. But still better than summer I am sure!
