Howard Stern & American Idol!?

I think I may be in the minority here (and that's perfectly fine), but I love listening to Howard daily and have been doing so for practically fifteen or more years. I am a teacher, a mother and a wife.

First of all, let me say that I don't believe Stern would EVER do this. He enjoys watching the show (just like "The Bachelor" and other types of reality shows), but I don't think he'd ever get up and move out to LA for AI. It just seems totally out of character.

Does he have a musical background? Sure, to some extent. Probably not as much as Cowell, but he can pick out a good idea when he sees it. I think Stern would be so much better than Randy Jackson any day. Certainly, he'd have to rein back much of what he would usually say, but you'd certainly get some honesty out of him - whether you'd like it or not. And just remember - back when AI first started, Simon said some majorly harsh comments (remember the lemur comment made to one guy a few years ago?), and now, we've all become desensitized to it.

Stern is definitely an acquired taste...you either like him or you don't. As for those that think he's sleazy, just listen to the show. You'll soon notice that most of the time, he's the "normal" one. Sal, Richard, JD and some of the other staff is worse than Stern himself.

To each his own....

Stern will never be a judge, so I don't know why people are so upset.

They can't find a replacement for Simon, he IS American Idol. The show will suffer when he leaves, more than it can recover from I think.

Howard Stern...yuck!

See, I heard the opposite. I heard that Stern was talking about it on his show and that he wanted to do it and that he wanted 100 million. Then I heard Fox or whomever say "he doesn't fit the demographics or isn't right for the show" or something like that.

I never heard anything about him being in talks. I would really hope that AI is not that stupid. I for one, and i'm sure there are many others, would never watch that show again. He is a foul mouthed idiot who doesn't have a clue about the music industry. Not exactly the right person to judge to singing contest. Well, unless they were all wearing bathing suits or nude, then i'm sure he would fit right in. :rotfl:

I feel the same way. I wouldn't let my kids watch it ever again either!

To the PP that said you think those of us who said we wouldn't watch would...

I am really pretty sure I wouldn't watch. Last season, was the only season I have actually watched every show. Most seasons I haven't watched but a few episodes. It's really a take-it or leave-it kind of show for me. To have someone I don't like be the major host would make it a leave-it forever show for me.

Howard Stern...yuck!

Yes he is! He owns the entire production and rakes in huge money with it.

ITA! I can't stand him personally, but the bigger issue, is that it really wouldn't be a show that you could watch as a family any longer. Granted he'd have to be sensored, but still:sick:

I've never watched AI, but I might watch it if Howard was on it. He won't be, though, it's just a joke rumor.

I've watched Idol since day one. If Howard Stern replaces Simon I will never watch it again. I think Howard is a pig.

I remember him from many years ago, referring to his then wife as a cow when she was breastfeeding their baby. :sad2:

I think it will be very difficult to replace simon. In my opinion he is the show. None of the judges get the attention he gets. Paula left and did anyone even notice?

I LOVE Howard, but I'd hate to see him on AI, because that would mean he wasn't coming back to radio...and I really love Simon on AI, he makes the show for sure. I hate to see him go.
It definitely take a certain sense of humour to appreciate Howard Stern, and he would be pretty ruthless on AI,which might be a bit tough for some to handle considering his reputation, but for anyone who listens to the show every morning, you know that Howard's a really charming guy and, like Simon, could probably be charmed by certain contestants.
But I don't want Howard to go to AI because I don't want Simon to leave AI! And I don't want Howard to leave sirius! I like things the way they are

If they hired Howard Stern I would never watch the show again, and I'd never look back and regret the decision.

I hate to say it, but if Stern would judge on AI, I'd probably start to watch it again. I haven't really been interested in a few years. The only times I watch it are during the audition process and the Wednesday night "decision nights" - and even then, I DVR it so I don't have to listen to Ryan saying "After the break."

AI has gotten tired recently, and I just have moved on.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Both posts are well said!!! I LOVE him right where he is!!! I think it would be great for Howard to interview Simon after he leaves the show!! THAT would be outstanding! There is no better interviewer out there!!!

Very well could happen. He has interviewed the original team before (Paula, Simon and Randy). :thumbsup2

I can't imagine Howard would stoop to that level.

:lmao:

Wasn't Howard Stern the "architect" of that stupid "Vote for the Worst" thing that got Sanjaya so far along despite there being SO many more talented singers?

No, Howard had nothing to do with creating the VFTW website. "Vote for the Worst" dot com is a website that exists to make fun of American Idol. It was spun-off an old EZ Board where people discussed AI. In 2007, Howard and other talk shows talked about the website and helped to publicize it for that reason. It still exists, and let me say--if you think the Dis boards are tough, go check out the forums over there. They're brutal!

Personally, I don't think Ellen has done anything, musically, that "qualifies" her to be a judge; but she's certainly going to be funnier (intentionally) than the semi-coherent Paula Abdul. Paula was great in the 80's, and on the first couple seasons of AI; but for the last couple of seasons I think she's been having "medication problems"....

Humor is a subjective thing, but I don't find Ellen funny at all. Or talented or interesting, for that matter. I don't get what anyone sees in her. Howard OTOH can be hysterical, intelligent and insightful, but his act has always been about playing a rebel. I think AI is too mainstream for him.

I'm hopeful he'll be back on terrestrial radio soon. That's where he belongs. :)

Howard Stern on the show would be the end of my watching AI.

Me too. I'll watch after Simon leaves...but if Stern comes on I refuse to watch.
