Howard Johnson to San diego zoo

I am thinking off staying at the Howard Johnson, across from DL, not booking through Disney. Can anybody tell me how would we would get from the Hotel to the San Diego Zoo. We will not be renting a car. Taxi? Do they provide any shuttle to the zoo?

Oh boy, I would think a taxi would be very, VERY expensive!

There are some companies that offer bus transportation packages to the zoo. Do a Google search, but companies like Gray Line are pretty popular. Would you be open to renting a car just for that day? Some of the prices I found online are saying the transportation portion (bus only, not $40 pp zoo admission) would be $45 per person. Depending on how many people you have, renting a car for just a day might be cheaper.
