My dd9 is begging to get her ears double pierced. She has a single hole now and she enjoys wearing earrings. I have mine double pierced, but I was in my 20s when I did it. I wouldn't have a problem with her doing this at 16 or maybe even 13, but 9 just seems too young. DH and I feel it would be too mature of a look for her. We have told her we are "thinking about it."

Interestingly she says NONE of her friends have their ears double pierced (we thought maybe she wanted this because her friends had it done) so we don't know why she wants this all of a sudden. Would you let your dd9 get a second piercing?

Laurie :)

I would let mine...my godson got his second hole around 4th grade..he got his first in kindergarten.

I just let DD get hers done on one side this summer and she was 16.5 yrs. I also said I didn't want anything too dangly in it.

DD14 has been asking for years to have the double done or her cartilage. We finally agreed that she can get the double in a few months, when she's closer to 15.

I have doubles, triples in fact, but didn't have those done until like 10th and 12th grades.

My daughter is 14 and just had her tragus pierced about six months ago. I have no problems at all with piercings as long as they aren't oral in nature. If she wants to get her ears, her cartilage, multiple ear holes, eyebrow or nose, I'm ok with it. All others must wait until she is 18. At nine, I would absolutely allow for a double ear piercing if that is what she wants!

my DD8 has been asking about this lately too.... her older sister, 16, has her ears triple pierced and her rook pierced (in the ear). I told her she could get it done when she is 12 or 13. 8 or 9 seems too young for my taste.

I have had double ear piercings since I was 5 yrs old. My grandma did the first set, then when my sister was getting her double piercing, I got my second too.

I won't let DD get her first piercing until she is 11, so I would have to say no.

If she can handle it and you think it's ok, then go ahead. If you don't want her to, then it's too young, at least for you.

It's such a personal opinion. My DD is 7yrs old and I'm not allowing her to get her ears pierced until she has her 1st communion when she's in third grade. I have no problem with other people that pierce their DD's younger than this - it's just personal preference.

I would say that if you are uncomfortable letting your DD do this, than I wouldn't allow it. My DD begs me all the time to pierce her ears and I always say, "not yet". Explain to your DD that you feel she is to young and when she's older she can do it. This way you are giving her hope and not just saying, "NO".

Good luck!!!

Well it's certainly a nice custom for them to want to have done. Exactly when is really the parent's call. Many parents would regard the time when she is entering the teen years as the time to let her get double-pierced, if she hasn't done it already. After all, so many moms ears have been doubled and tripled that daughters can't be blamed if they like the idea as well.

Personally no I would not but I wouldn't agree to it at any age. That is just me though.

No I don't think I would agree to it. Just my personal opinion. I am not one for tatoos and multiple peircings. I would not sign off on the papers for my daughters or son to get it done.

You're right that boys like to pierce their ear(s) as well.

Personally think that if a boy has a sister with doubles and yet he's not even allowed one little ring in one ear, he may think it strange.

If a girl has cousins, aunts etc, with their doubles, it's really not strange if she would like some as well.

(Just my impression...)

I would have to say when mine is supporting herself she can get double piercings - well, maybe 18, but I would discourage her & advise her to wait until she was 20 or 21.

I'm pretty conservative, though.

Well yes I guess that's your call. But I'm sure you realise that ever so many teens get doubles, don't they?

(Ever so many moms and grandmas as well, so the fact that teens want them as well isn't unusual I guess).

Take care.

Sure I realize that -- but I'm not their mother, so it doesn't matter to me what other people do -- just what my kids do when I am responsible for them ... and I don't set rules for them that I do not follow myself (that would be just a bit hypocritical) :)

Okay! So it's important for you that she/they don't get more holes, I guess. (For a lot of parents it wouldn't be such a big deal, but to each their own I guess.)

I suppose everyone is different.

Take care.
