Go about showing your SO how wonderful Disney can be? We have a daughter that will be around 1 1/2 when we go to Disney and the wife is just not sure about the magic. Her questions include

- It's a small world just looks freaky?
- I can't imagine that much happiness?
- How do the kids not ask questions about the characters heads?

Her likes
- Dumbo
- Sword and the Stone
- Pooh
- Sit down dinners
- Wine

This obviously brings about some easy ideas but I wanted to get other peoples thoughts. We're planning to go in the Jan/Feb timeframe and will likely stay for 6/5 and will have a 5 day single pass with the DDP.

Thanks for your ideas in advance.

As the saying goes: the way to a person's heart is thru his/her stomach. So book some nice ADRs for each night where she can have a nice glass of wine and relax!! I'm not kidding. Lots of places to choose from, and they don't have to be signature restaurants. And get a bottle of wine for the room, too.

Then educate her. Gently. Maybe find some You tube videos of the various attractions, so she has a better idea of what to expect. You can find oodles of resort photos if you go to the Resort FAQ sticky.

Fortunately you're going during a cool part of the year, so you won't have the heat and humidity to deal with. And the parks will probably be closing earlier so you shouldn't be quite as exhausted at the end of the day, as you would in the summer.

And let her know that there's a lot more to see than just the MK. Show her photos and videos of the other parks, too. She'll soon see that theres more to WDW than characters with big heads.:wizard:

Just beware Jan/Feb are cold months in Florida. Since you have not gone during those months I want you to be prepared that while Florida is the sunshine state, take it from someone who has gone in Jan/Feb, it gets cold. So pack cold weather clothes. I have even taking my gloves with me!

I do agree with PP there are a lot of really good videos on you tube that will give you a good idea of what the trip will be like.

One other thing. Presidents weekend which is in Feb, it will be crowded! The schools new england states have winter break and the kids are off all week so you will see an unusual amt of kids there. Plus there is always a competition called Twirl Mania at the Disney World Wide Sports which is held every year during the week of the President Day. So the value resorts are full of teeny bopper girls.

Sorry, but 1 1/2? As long as she is warm, dry and fed, that's pretty much all she'll care about.

What character heads? ;)

It's a small world does seem kind of freaky, but when you are in the moment with the music playing, etc, it is just magical.

As far as too much happiness, Pfft. There is no such thing as too much happiness. There are still miserable people at Disney, but your trip is as magical as you want it to be.

Take her to Epcot to the World Showcase and let her shop and taste wine and other drinks around the world. If you have a 1 1/2 year old, that's the perfect age to enjoy WS - pushing your stroller leisurely through the different countries.

- It's a small world just looks freaky? It can be annoying for some adults, but I wouldn't say freaky. And the kids tend to love it...it's one of my 7 yo DDs favorites, and that's enough to get me on it multiple times per trip.
- I can't imagine that much happiness? The kids are so amazed most of the time, and it's so magical for them. Like I said above, if my kids are happy then I'm good. Go into it with an open mind...usually people will be polite, but yeah there can be some rude visitors you come across (and some CMs, too...everybody is human!). You may have to wait in lines, it could be cold, you won't get to everything. But if you're willing to be flexible and just enjoy what you do, without worrying about everyone else, it'll be fun.
- How do the kids not ask questions about the characters heads? Mine just never have. The adore the characters. We could do nothing but meet and greets and a few rides and they'd have a great time at Disney!

Make some ADRs at better restaurants. Try new things. It'll be fun!

It's been awhile since I had a 1 1/2 year old, but WDW would be magical for me if I had a reprieve from all the normal care I give to the 1 1/2 year old. So, an afternoon at a spa would be great, a minimal amount of time pushing the stroller, less diaper changes, etc. The rest would fall into place.

It's starting to happen. Took DD and DW to the disney store this weekend. She's a fan of pooh and DD apparently is as well. Everytime she saw pooh she made a recognition noise and tried to grab him. That was nice to see.

DW made a comment that she hates that she's getting excited to take DD to the pooh movie so it looks like I can sit back and enjoy it all.

Also she found the Food and Wine festival information so it looks like we've figured out "when" to go as well.

Sounds like you need to book a meal at the Crystal Palace! It's a really good buffet with Pooh and friends.
