How would you use 50 points before August 1?

This is equal parts daydream post and real advice request. :)

We are buying a 150 ppint resale contract at VWL. It has passed ROFR and the broker says it will close by January 30 at the latest.

It comes with 50 points from 2015 that must be used by August 1. So....how would you use those?

Details on us:
- Just spent Thanksgiving at AKL and are planning to go to VWL in January 2018 to a 2br. Not sure we want/need to go back to WDW in between
- We will need around 200 points for the Jan 2018 trip. I'd like to do another in spring of 2019 (Hilton Head?), so I'd like to avoid dipping in to the 2016 points
- We live in eastern PA in case that's a factor (thinking of RCI possibilities within a decent drive)
- Initially thought of renting them...but that's not as much fun!

Would you be open to trading them?
I have 50 points that would be good for you to use in Jan 2018 and I can make use of your 50 points in July 2017.

That would be good if you can trade them. If that fails you can try renting them out this year and with the proceeds rent/transfer someones points for next year.

Interesting! This is a new concept for me, and I am definitely open to it. Are your points also at VWL? And a more basi question...under what circumstances is trading a good idea?

I am not sure how far of a drive HHI is from PA but could you try to book a couple days at the HHI DVC and then maybe a couple days elsewhere. Transferring to another member is an option, but it would have to be done soon after you take ownership in order for it to be useful for another member. If you are not going to use them and have no intention of then transferring (and making a little money on the deal) would be your best option. I guess like the previous poster mentioned you could do a fair trade of points.

I just looked and later august at HHI with buying 20 one time use points (@ $15pp $300) could get a studio for 4 nights.

Studio for 4 nights at VWL for a F&W 2017 trip sans kids (if you have them). But gotta get on that ASAP to book before the 7 month window...maybe grab a studio at SSR if you can't get VWL. I booked a studio at BWV for 5 nights at 50 points. OKW, SSR and some of AKV are about the same point cost so you could maybe do 5 nights but 4 nights, you might could get other resorts. F&W is Sept, Oct and beginning of Nov.

OKW and SSR points for studios in Feb through April are 13 or 14 points a night Sun through Thur. Now if they were good in Sept, you could get five nights in a studio at OKW for 10 points per night

Oh, shoot. My post above doesn't work because you need to use by Aug. Could do a F&G trip in May... sans kids.

Oh darn! I didn't realize it either and started thinking how fun that would be for our 15th anniversary in October. But it was a good idea!

It's about 15 hpurs, so we would fly, especially for a short trip -- but then that drives up the cost. I like the idea, though!

I have successfully rented out unused points several times. You will need to do some research and fully understand how the process works.

Just to add another choice. If I remember right, you CAN bank them. We bought a contract that had banked points, yet we weren't planning to take another trip that UY. I thought we'd have the same dilemma, but when I called Member Services, she offered to bank them, something about this being a new contract, so they weren't points banked by us. Whatever her reasoning, worked for me!

Really! That is very interesting. Thanks for sharing this! I will definitely ask, about it once I get our membership cards. We closed last week (yay!) and are just waiting on the last step. Thanks!
