How would you get rid of ten points?

Hi all, I was hoping someone could give me some advice on what I should do with 10 points that I can't use at an DVC resort.

Let me explain what had happened, we planned a DCL trip last year with a week stay at the Grand Floridian.Well we had to change the week stay at the resort to only a one night stay there,so we knew that by doing this that we could only use the points that we would receive back at only a Disney Collection resort or a Concierge Collection, and that the points would need to be used by the end of this year or we would lose them.

Well we just made ressie for a trip to WDW for the end of July but we could not come up with a stay that would use all of the points that needed to be used, so right now we have 10 points that we don't know what to do with. Can these be rented out? or are we looking at just losing the ten points.

What would you guys do!
thanks for the help.

:confused3

That's a tough one, since 10 stand alone reservation points don't really buy a reservation by themselves. If they were regular points, you could transfer them to another member for rent, but reservation points are pretty useless for just 10 of them.

Some people do need just 10 points. Post and see what happens.

But 10 RESERVATION POINTS? The fact that they are reservation points makes them harder to deal with because they are not enough to make a reservation at any of the Disney Collection resorts unless you want to borrow a few more points to put into it.

I agree with dianeschlicht on this too, I kinda knew that these would be hard to move. But I just would hate to see the points not being used.

I hear that! My friend had to lose 12 points that way last year.

And we tried every which way to come up with a stay to use all of the points, but every time we were either over by 10 points or short by 6 or 8 points and we didn't want to use our points from next year to even things out.

If you have any other points that could be used to make a reservation at a non-DVC option, you can try to make a reservation using the 10 Res points and any additional points required. If you have no other points you can commit to a rental, it sounds as though those 10 will just have to expire.

No easy answer.

Good luck!

cant you bank those 10 points?
Reservation points are points that have been used for an out of DVC system exchange (in this case, a non-DVC WDW resort). As such, they cannot be banked or put back into the system because they have already been taken out of the system and the associated reservations "sold". Reservation points can only be used to make reservations out of system like the Disney Collection or Concierge Collection.

ABSOLUTELY RENT THEM OUT!!!

Lots of times DVC members are just a few points short for making a reservation. Once I needed just 3 more points and posted an add looking for 3 points. The next day someone rented them to me and deposited them into my account. Then I had enough points in my account to get my last day reserved.

OR

You could rent a few more from another member and then you would have enough to stay one more night. ABSOLUTELY, post an add and see what happens, I think you will be surprized. There are alot more people like you wondering what they are going to do with their last 6 points or so. So I would post an add to look for more for you and book another day.

Go For It!!!

Doc, do you think it would be worth it to post it on the rent board at all?

It sure can't hurt to post on the rent/trade (and it doesn't cost anything except the time it takes to type the post ;) ).

As long as you have enough points to go with it to make some sort of reservation, you may be surprised.

Good luck!

I would try to add a day and borrow the few points from the next year rather than loose the ten points!!! I would think that would be the easiest approach to this.

These points can't be transferred and can't be used for a DVC ressie, because they are reservation points.

I agree with ClarabelleCow. Seems to me the OP either just lets the points go, or borrows enough to add a night to the July trip.

It wouldn't hurt to post on the Rent/Trade Board, but reservation points are hard to rent in the first place and an amount that isn't even big enough to reserve one night somewhere will be very, very difficult to get rid of. IMHO, the OP would be lucky to recover maintenance fees. Could be tough to even give these away.

Best wishes -

Next year I may very well need 10 or less points to do my Alaksa Cruise, depending on the 2006 points chart. You never know what people may need. Post and see if you get a response.

I would borrow enough points to do a 1 night stay at a nice resort nearby. We plan on doing that at the Sagamore here in NY.

That's a very good point. DCL uses reservation points.
