How would you get a tick off a baby?

Weird question, I know.
I'm a new, overprotective, worry-wort father. We have ticks EVERYWHERE right now, it seems. And we've got two dogs. I've found a few around, and I'm paranoid that it's just a matter of time before one ends up on our daughter. (She's 10-months old, btw).
My wife just rolls her eyes whenever I bring it up, (she says I'm paranoid and over-protective, but we've already been over that. I cop to it.) but I'm really freaked out by ticks and spiders and stuff like that.

So... How would you do it?

And just because I can, and I'm a proud dad, here's a pic of my DD Katie (tick-free):

I have to admit that when I did a quick Google search, what I found de-bunked most of the remedies/removal methods that I've used DON'T WORK!

According to what many sites say, the ONLY way to remove them is to pull them with tweezers. Read about it at: Tick Removal

This site also talks about preventing tick bites in the first place:Prevention

And your DD is absolutely adorable! :teeth:

I can't help you with the tick, but I have to say that Katie is a cutie!!!! Does she look like her Mom? ;)

Awww, she is adorable! I can't believe she's 10 months old all ready! I remember your announcement when she was born. :)

I just hate, hate, hate ticks! I don't mind spiders, I see why they are needed, but ticks??????? Hate them! I wish they would disappear!

What an adorable little princess you have there!

What I would do is take a cotton ball with some alcohol on it, and gently wipe over the tick. I find that the alcohol makes them lift up a little, making it easier to remove from the skin.

i have no idea about ticks  but Katie is so cute!! look at those little cheeks!! there so pinchable!!! :teeth:

No advice, just laughing at that wonderful picture of your baby. :)

What a cutie! I really can't offer much advice about the ticks because when stuff like that happens we either call my Dad or BIL down the street who's an Army medic. So far, we haven't had any tick problems but I don't blame you for being worried, they're nasty. Here's hoping the ticks stay far away!

and the ticks....you take a pair of tweezers....and go straight in and pull straight up....do not go on an angle.......make sure that you get it all and then sterilize the area.......because you will be checking her every day I am sure.......the tick probably wont' get a chance to get to into her skin......just dont' stress so....she is the sweetest thing ....

Okay, I read the title of this thread too fast because I thought you were asking how to tick off a baby!!

Anyway, she sure is a cutie!!

Oh, thank goodness someone else saw this too! :p

Cute baby!

I too am guilty of reading subject to fast I thought it said how to tick of a baby. That was interesting thought I'd take a peak.. Glad I did she is a cutie. I can't stand bugs. I have also heard of the Tweezer method. Just make sure you get the head.

The other way I heard which I would never do on a human is to burn it out with a cigarette. It is what they did long ago I believe.
We don't smoke, so that is no good for us. I've really only ever seen one tick in my life.

Sorry I'm not really any help. Well Katie is adorable enjoy being a dad. Even though it is tough not to worry all the time about your little one. Mine is almost 7 and I am constantly worried about him. I even get up in the middle of the night sometimes just to check in on him.

I grew up camping every summer with the family so ticks don't gross me out like they seem to do to many people. I would have to pull dozens of them off the dog and several off myself or my siblings during the course of a couple weeks. I remember ROFL in sixth grade because a friend of mine found a tick on herself and freaked out, crying and screaming. It wasn't very nice of me but I thought she was WAY overreacting.

Just grab the tick and pull it straight off. Put a dab of antibiotic ointment on spot and keep an eye on it for any signs of rash or swelling.

You can then kill the tick by cutting it in half length-wise, or burn it.

If I am remembering correctly, ticks have to be attached for 12 to 24 hours before Lyme disease is transmitted. Just check your adorable little one every time she has been outside or after she has played with the dogs. You will probably find the ticks before they even attach.
