How would you feel about this mandatory meeting?

Personally, I wouldn't go. Have you asked what would happend if you didn't go?

Also, isn't there some kind of confidentiality thing going on here? What if you don't want anyone else knowing that you go there?

That was my first thought too...the confidentiality issue.

I agree with Mickeyboat so I won't go back over the same things but she is right especially about the confidentiality, unless your DR. has an individual entrance and really staggers patients everyone who goes there is going to know who else goes there.

I don't understand why everyone is so argumentive anymore. Why not think they are trying to help the patients and the parents and the staff all work together.

For me, it's just the way it's worded. I don't appreciate being told that I "have" to do something -- if it had been broached differently, I might have shown an interest in seeing what this meeting was all about. I don't appreciate the ASSumption that I need parenting advice, or that I need to be admonished to bring my child to all his appointments and give him his meds. If this is, indeed, a problem with other parents, then the clinic should take it up with THEM.

The town I live in is very low income, and not many people around here are very well educated. I get extremely frustrated with having to prove my intelligence and educational background to every bureaucrat I come across in my children's functions.

So, maybe it's that frustration talking in this case. I'm not looking forward to yet another instance of being talked down to because of groundless assumptions.

She said not to worry, that it wasn't so much educational, but that it was more to stress the importance of making all our kids' appointments and making sure they take their meds.

Just went back and read this part over and that's even worse.. If a parent is making all of their kids' appointments and monitoring their med routine, why should they have to devote an hour and a half of their time to listen to other parents being lectured because they don't?

That's exactly what it sounds like -- a lecture!

What's ironic (to me, anyway), is this whole month I'm going to be completely bogged down with my school work. This is my last semester of graduate work, so I have quite a few final projects coming due at the end of the month. One of my projects involves writing up lesson plans and adaptations for kids with behavioral disorders. I swear, I will eat my project if they teach me one little iota that I don't already know at this meeting!

Anyway, I'm attending the meeting after I protest to the guy in charge. I'm going to flat out tell him (very politely) that if this meeting turns out to be as condescending as it sounds, then I'm finding my son a new clinic.

I think if I were you I might tell him that it's my last semester in grad school and tell him about that project. Tell him point blank that you totally undertand the importance of what he's trying to get across and you agree with the importance.
