Our trip is quickly approaching (2 DAYS!) and I have been asked the following question multiple times:

"Oh, you're going to Walt Disney World. What are you going to do there?"

(Note - I have been asked by people who have been and have not been to WDW.)

For the life of me, I can't come up with a good response to this! Part of me wants to be like, "Ummm, what are we not going to do there?!?!" And then another part of me knows that I could go on and on about what we're going to do...but who wants to listen to that? I've pretty much resorted to this semi-lame answer, "Go to the parks and eat at cool places." I can tell by the looks I've been getting that that is not a satisfactory response.

So what would YOU say if someone asked you this?

As much as humanly possible. :thumbsup2

Just start walking them through the parks, but make sure when you do you have a crazed excited expression on your face!
That's what I normally do!

I have a very sarcastic personality and yet very passionate about WDW. So, I would ask,

"Do you really want to know or are you just making conversation?"

If they say they really want to know, then I would ask,

"Do you want the quick lame answer, the 2 minute speed round or the 30 minute extravaganza?"

I am one of those people that can instantly sense someone's misery if I am going on too long about something, so I can slow down / accelerate as needed.

Cheers,
Joe

I would go with a simple "Have fun" and not care about the looks.

Having been asked this question, what they're really asking is are you planning to do anything special, other than just go to the parks. Like Universal, Sea World. I'd say primarily the parks, if that's what we were doing. If we were also doing a water park, I'd through that in. If we were thinking about doing DT Disney, Disney Quest, or Circ de soleil, I might say were thinking about doing those as well. Seems to be a pretty easy question to me.

Pre-kids, I had a coworker who went to Disney every year with their kids and for the life of me, could not figure out why they would want to go every year (even though I'd been there as a kid.) Dh and I realized last year, that we have become THOSE people that would go to Disney every year (or more often) if budget allows! :rotfl:

However, when friends ask us where we're taking our family vaca, and we tell them "Disney again" they look at us like we're nuts and ask why we'd want to go back AGAIN when there are so many other (and less expensive) places to go. I usually just tell them that WE love it, our KIDS love it and we want to go as often as possible while it's still magical for them. I also tell them that there's no worries in Disney about trying to find things to entertain our kids. Disney pretty well takes care of that :lmao: And I truly think that if someone were to actually ask me "what are you going to do there?" I'd probably stare open-mouthed and ask them if they're serious! :)

My response would be:

"Have the time of our lives and not think about or do any work or housework for the entire trip"

Have another magical awesome best ever vacation is my reply.

But I havn't been asked that in a while years ago it was replaced by "Disney, again"? and now it's just "so when are you all going back to Disney"? And if we go anywhere else, "what you aren't going to Disney"? It's a nice transition but it takes dozens of trips to get to that point and we still get the occasional smirk or eye roll with the question but I just ignore that.

This is similar to what I usually say...not as quick witted, but pretty much the same. Some people really want to know because they may have been thinking about going and just need that push from someone in the know. Some people are just being politely curious and making conversation. I can adjust my answer accordingly. ;)

I love this answer! Most people are probably just making conversation when they ask this question. Some are trying to make a statement (you're going there again?!? There must be something wrong with you). And a few are really interested. I think I'm borrowing at least some of your response :goodvibes.

I'm going to stalk Chip 'n' Dale and Donald Duck all over the parks.

We actually did do this on the most recent trip. It's not the only thing we did but it sounds a little strange doesn't it?

"Oh, you're going to Walt Disney World. What are you going to do there?"

Something like this:

"I'm going to ride some of the best rides and attractions available anywhere on the planet.

"I'm going to watch amazing musical shows, dramatic fireworks displays and fun parades.

"I'm going to eat great food at fantastically-themed restaurants.

"In short, I'm going to have a fantastic time in a place that's been specifically designed to feel 'magical'!

"What else do you need to know? "What are *you* doing for your vacation ... the beach, again? :rolleyes2"

yeah it depends on the person. if they are REALLY asking then I'll tell them but I'll give a warning first that once I start I can't stop LOL

but I figure most people just want to know what parks we are doing or where we are staying so I just give them that. "We are staying at Bay lake Towers and we are going to go to Magic kingdom, Epcot and DHS" if they want to know more they will ask more questions but that usually satisfies people

I'd answer going for the scope and scale:

"Staying on site and visiting all four theme parks and two water parks..."

plus the aspect newbies may not realize is possible:

"...and getting free dining."

I simply tell them I am going to relax, and enjoy the friendship and company of my wife in a place where we can have fun and and not have to worry about a thing.

"To enjoy time as a family and to see the excitement and wonder on dds faces."

Emily

I usually give the response of, "Have the most fun ever, and be a 6 year old again for a week". If they seem interested, I go into detail, I could talk for hours about Disney.
However, you always run into the "Disney Haters" at some point. I was brought up to overlook and forgive those who don't know any better, so when someone asks me where we're going and we tell them Disney, and I get the response "Again! Haven't you been there enough", I give them the official southern response for people like that. "Well bless you heart":goodvibes. If they are from the south too, they get the meaning and shut up, lol!:rotfl:

I tell them its my midlife crisis:rotfl2: My yearly pilgrimage to WDW keeps me away from young men, drugs and excessive alcohol:thumbsup2:worship. you can imagine the looks I get from that:rolleyes1 Tina

I'd say we'll be hitting all of the parks and doing most of the rides. Then I'd probably ask them if they've been to WDW before and what some of their favorite attractions or things to do are. Most people who asked me about my trip had either been there or had some interest in going themselves. If they know zip about WDW I'd probably just briefly talk about how there are 4 main theme parks now and see if their eyes quickly glaze over or not. :thumbsup2
