How would they know if we stayed in the park?

For those who dont have extra magic hours, how would they know if you stayed in the park after hours? Do the magicbands vibrate or something? lol

You can stay in the parks, just can't ride anything, they check you at every ride/ show.

Exactly. Unlike a party night EMH is not a hard ticket event so anyone can stay. It's just you won't be able to do any attractions unless you have a valid resort ID.

See, I always read that they checked you. But on our 2011 trip, we stayed for EMH at Magic Kingdom one night and were were never checked for anything. We stayed at Shades of Green, so we were eligible, but were never asked for anything proving we were resort guests. Maybe it's because it wasn't crowded at all that night.

I would think that with Magic Bands, it would now be pretty easy to check and see if you are a resort guest. No green light---no ride. Sorry.

And in 2012 when DGF and I went, we stayed at SOG as well. We went to EMH, but made sure to have our room keys. They came down on the "stayers" in 2012. We saw people that tried to stay, and if they were found to NOT have resort ids/room keys, those people were directed to the exit of the park. Not just kept off the rides, but guided to the exits period.

CMs scan your band at all line entrances. You can shop, eat and take in the atmosphere all you want, though. :goodvibes

Copied and pasted from Disney's website: "Guests of select Walt Disney World Resort hotels enjoy extra time in the parks before they open and after they close!"

They enforce it at the rides, but I read that as applying to being in the park in general. The reality is alot of offsite people stay in the parks, but they are not actually paying for the privilege.

It's not like a hard ticket party where there are special parades and fireworks for those staying. Plus I don't think Disney wants to have to hire more cm's to escort people out like they do at the parties. They are glad to let them spend money. Even on non-EMH nights some stores stay open past close.

I agree that it is not as big of a deal as a hard ticket event, but you do pay a premium to stay onsite and one of the perks is lower crowds at EMH. They may not enforce it, but if you aren't a resort (in my opinion) you should be making your way to the exit at regular park close. It didn't matter as much when the evening EMH was 3 hours as there would more time once the crowds eventually thinned.

But since the people who aren't staying on property can't get on the rides, you are getting lower crowds (well, shorter lines if you want to nitpick ;)). And I can't imagine that most of the offsite guests are staying very long once they find out they can't get on the rides.

Extremely unusual. Unless you knew the people you observed, I would venture to say you possibly misunderstood what was happening.

I will disagree. The situation is akin to the park remaining open after hours for everyone on a normal close. No one is expected to be outside the gates and in the parking lot at close.

I would amend your statement and say the intent is shorter waits at EMH, not lower crowds. To each their own though.

They check your Magic Band or Room Key for Non Disney Operated Hotels (DTD Hilton, Shades of Green, Swan & Dolphin)

I've seen them scan tickets at the hub entrances to the different lands. They ask those without to go to main street and exit the park.

When I went in May they had CMs at all the ride and they would scan your magic band which shows what resort you are staying at. If you didn't have a magic band then you weren't able to go on the rides. I didn't see people staying around who weren't resort guests.

What about the lack of magic bands for those who are offsite? Might look a little odd, no?

If you weren't noticed for whatever reason, I suppose this means you'd be able to watch the EMH-only fireworks/parades? Personally, I have better things to do on my holidays than try to waste hours in a park that's closed to me, but figured I may as well ask, LOL.

How does it work when you are staying at a resort and you are reusing a Magic Band from a previous visit?

Is that MB linked to your reservation as well?
