I booked a garden view room in April at HRH for September 13-18, 2001. At that time, I was told the garden view room was only available for four nights @ $117. The fifth night there were no garden rooms available and I would be put in a pool room for $149. That means packing all my stuff up and three kids for our last night plus the extra money for my inconvenience. I told them I would prefer to have one room the entire time and preferred a garden room for all five nights.

I called to confirm our ressies last week and again asked about the room situation. I was told that it hadn't changed. I again requested one room for our entire stay.

Do you think I did everything I could? Should I become more firm in my request?

Just keep checking back periodically with HRH. There are always cancellations. April is a long ways off.

The only reason I can imagine for your situation is that a convention group has an entire class of accommodation blocked for a portion of your stay.

I would ask for the pool room for the entire stay and ask that they honor the garden rate for it, so you don't have to move. Ask for the property's revenue manager and explain your situation. Be polite & firm; and ask for that person's manager or superior if they say no.

Where I work here in LV, this occasionally happens to long-term guests; i.e., meeting planners who come in a week before a convention checks in; they're supposed to stay in a suite but the current group in-house has all suites blocked, and the meeting planner stays in a standard room for 2 -3 nights, then moves to the suite for the remaining 8 - 10 nights of her stay. Happens all the time as the hotel allocates its resources for the groups that are in-house. But for a guest booked in a standard room to move from room to room - crazy!!

Of course, I had to postpone everything and reschedule. I have made new flight plans for next week. I called HRH when this all began and was told they would do everything they could to accommodate me. Called again to finalize rescheduling and now they are telling me that I can't have the entertainment rate because there are no *entertainment rate* rooms available. I told them I booked with with an entertainment rate and I am a Loews member and there are *other* rooms available, what is the problem? I don't know what to make of it. I am calling again today to speak to a manager or supervisor.

Go for it!! Ask them to honor the first rate you had and ask them to keep you in the same room for the entire stay. Let them make up the revenue on some other guest. Good luck - JL
