How would I find an Obits from 1979?

A friend from my youth was killed in an auto accident in 1979. I was too young to know what happened, and now, for whatever reason, I want to find out what happened.

What search engines can I use?

if a newspaper carried the story go to their website (you can do a google with the city name and "newpapers" to get a list) and see how far they go back in their online archives (some charge a small fee). 1979 may be stretching it though. if you live near where it happened you could likely go to the public library and find the info. on micro-fische.

a newspaper article is likely to contain more info. than an obituary.
