How will your wedding dress travel?

make sure your airline will let you use the closet for your dress if that is your plan. another bride on the wedding bee had a bad experience with virgin airlines and she was forced to buy another seat for her dress as they would not put the dress in the closet no matter how she and her mother insisted.

Strange, I flew Virgin and had no problem at all - they never queried it at all. Provided that the dimensions of your box are within the required limit, I don't see how they can refuse to carry the box anymore than they could refuse to carry any other piece of hand luggage!!
I would have argued my case very strongly on that one!!! Luckily, I did not have any trouble!!

I had carried mine. The flight attendants took it and hung it in their closet.
It was much easier than I expected.

oh no, i wasn't talking about the box for that situation. that was if a bride had a dress in a garment bag and wanted it hung up in the little closet. some airlines just will not give in.

Oh right!!! Sorry I misunderstood sweetie!!! I thought it was a bit odd that Virgin would refuse to take a legitimately sized piece of hand luggage. I am such a dork!!!

Hello all!

I called Air tran, that is who we are flying, and they said it can be my carry on but I don't trust even the upgraded David's Bridal bag I bought for the dress....any suggestions on how to get the dress to Disney with no issues?

Hi there:

I flew Airtran, and I was told they do not have a closet to hang things in when I called their customer service number. My dress was in the dress bag from House of Brides, then folded into my carryon-sized luggage. It was then placed in the overhead bin of my seat. I ended up sitting in the aisle (which I HATE) because I wasn't going to let my dress out of my sight!

If you have steaming available to you (included with your package), then I say "don't worry about it". Package it up the best you can, fold it up to fit in your carry-on, and just carry it aboard the plane. You are allowed 1 personal item and one carry-on, so take a laptop-sized bag as your personal item (purse), and carry on your dress.

By the way, I had to fold my dress in thirds in order to get it to fit, (plus sized brides ALWAYS have bigger dresses), but once I pressed the air out of it, it fit just fine, with room extra for shoes, tiara, etc.

And now my dress is rolled up like a tamale, and stuffed into 2 Disney bags!

Hope this helps. Best Wishes!

Thank you for your reply! I am also a plus size bride and my dress just seems huge to me! lol It fits fine but it is the corset type so I believe that is why, it can be made tighter if needed if that makes sense ;)

yeah, I am not to convinced with air tran, I am going to do the upgraded bag over the David's Bridal bag and if needed fold it in half to put it above our head in the luggage bin (We are traveling with 9 people so I am sure we will occupy that whole luggage bin if needed. I am also not afraid to be vocal about wanting a spot in first class, business class, whatever closet for my dress :)

Streaming is included in my package, thank goodness! :cheer2:
