How will the current coronavirus scare effect DCL in 2021? Will it make 2021 more crowded & expensive, due to postponed trips from this year being booked for next year, or will 2021 be less crowded and expensive due to people being scared away from cruising?

It will be far more crowded in 2021 due to postponed trips. Once the panic is over people will flock to the parks and cruises.

I too think the prices will surge. I booked about two months ago and it will be interesting to see how much our date will rise in price.

The same people who have always thought all cruise ships are a "floating petri dish of death" will still be those who won't cruise. Those who love cruising and know how safe it usually is will mostly continue. Those who had their first cruise cancelled could go either way. A lot depends on how long this lasts and how bad it gets. We don't have a cruise booked until a year from now, so thankfully we haven't been affected. We will continue to cruise for many years.

Our family had never cruised before and then had three cruises booked for this year. Our spring break cruise is cancelled, DCL Alaska cruise cancelled for summer, that leaves us one cruise left at the end of the year. At this point, I'm not interested in cruising. I hope to get a refund, not a credit. I'm on the fence if we will ever cruise. Maybe one day?

It will be packed once this is all past. Until then no one is going to be cruising anyways.

I could see it being 2022 until crusing is anywhat "normal".

I had been looking at cheap cruises for next year but I am doubtful there would be anything last minute.

If you cancelled your end of the year, could you rebook with the credit from the spring break cruise? That would at least save some money, assuming that cruise hasn't gone up in price too much from when you booked.

This is the type of sentiment I'm wondering if DCL will really have to contend with, given that so much of its market is geared to new cruisers. The whole industry got a very serious black eye from this pandemic, and families like to feel safe on their vacations.

I will say this though as a first time cruiser I would feel good about DCL since they were one of the first to cancel cruises and they also had 0 issues (at least that were in the news).

I am not a good litmus though because honestly once this stuff passes I am more than happy to go on a cruise again even though we are still rookie cruisers.

It is really hard to say. We are going to see a huge negative impact on the economy. If there is a long period of social distancing you can expect layoffs across industries. People may not be able to afford a cruise. If that is the case then prices will drop

That is a good point.

I was 100% set on cruising in 2021 in addition to this year (we were looking at Alaska or Norway), now I don't think I will. I have always been a bit irritated by the draconian cancellation policies on Disney cruises; now I see a real hazard because even though they are being gracious this year due to the unexpected nature of the health crisis and giving people 100% FCC, next year, if coronavirus comes back I doubt they will be so accommodating as another round of the virus would be entirely foreseeable. I could see us MAYBE booking a week or two before a cruise but I'm not going to let DCL hold my vacation budget hostage for months ahead of time again.

I’m just glad the late summer 2021 came out a few weeks ago and I booked a Labor Day 2021 cruise before this all happened. I’ll be checking rates regularly to see if it changes.

I would expect a lot of discounts over the next year. I think a lot of people that haven't cruised before might be scared off. Lower prices might real them in. If the shutdowns are only 30 days I think we'll rebound pretty quickly. I live in one of the largest cities in the US and other then the food hoarding everything seems pretty normal. The industry that is most affected by this is the travel industry and I think they'll get some kind of bailout or tax break.

This is, unfortunately, one of the drawbacks of cruising. If I didn't have the flexibility to take advantage of last-minute discounts we would have never cruised 25 times.

As soon as everything started, we booked our cruise for March 2021. We are first time cruisers and booked early in anticipation of prices increasing due to rebooking of cancelled cruises this spring/summer.

Good thinking. I really didn't think about all the rebookings, but that could drive up the price on Spring break cruises.
