Ok, so if they will require ID for children, what do we get? How are we to get a photo ID without getting a passport? I, too, do believe that security needs to be beefed up in our airports. It is speculated that unless you are a ticket holder, you will not be allowed near the gates. Sounds good to me! When we went to WDW in March, my carry-on was xray'ed and searched. They had seen something suspicious which turned out to be my daughter's breathing machine at the bottom of the bag. Better safe than sorry. We will be going again in March and I wonder what will change between now and then?

My grandson has a state issued ID. It may have cost $10, but it was worth the peace of mind and one less thing to worry about. You need to check with your state mva to see if it's available. It's still cheaper than a passport. My grandson got his when he was 5 in WV.

I got photo ID's at the BMV for both my kids today. They were $7.75 each. Will I still need Birth Certificates? Or is this ID enough? I had to present their BC's, SS cards, and my Drivers License to get them.

you can go and get the state issued photo id like a non drivers license.

..unless you live in Massachusetts where the children have to be 16 to get the state ID. Great state, huh? :p

I looked on the BMV website for Indiana and I'm going to get DD one. Haven't found the price, but I assume it's the same as a license (probably $10):

IDENTIFICATION CARDS FOR NON-DRIVERS:

1. Availability: The BMV offers identification cards for Indiana residents who are
non-drivers. The identification card looks similar to a standard driver’s license
except that it is clearly marked as a non-driver identification card at the top of
the document. To obtain an non-driver identification card the applicant must
meet the requirements for proof of identity and date of birth outlined in pages
2-3. Persons of any age may obtain a non-driver identification card.

2. Garfield Program: As a part of an effort by the BMV to encourage parents to
get an identification card for their children, persons ages 12 and under can
obtain a Garfield sticker with the world’s most famous animated cat for your
child’s identification card. To obtain an identification card, a child must be
accompanied by a parent or guardian. The parent or guardian needs to present
an original or certified copy of the child’s birth certificate and sign an affidavit
verifying the child’s identity.

Miller17, my grandson has used his MVA ID 8 times to fly now and it seems to make the airlines happy and have never asked for anything else. I think he personally likes having his own ID too. He wears his in in pin lanyard ID holder along with his resort ID when he's in WDW. I can't believe that all states don't have this. I do know that Wash. DC has just started this kid's ID program. When WV started it was free for the first couple of weeks. We've had if for 2 years now.

Has it been stated that children now need IDs?? I missed that. We are flying one week from today so I need to know! Thanks!

Check your airline - some are requiring either a photo ID or birth cerificate

I'm all in a tizzy now :(

I have a foster daughter that is traveling to WDW with us in November. I already realized that I'm going to have to get her a state issued ID like I did my non driving disabled daughter. The biggest obstacle in doing this is #1, you have to have a certified copy of their birth certificate and another form of Id like an original social security card.

Since she is in DHS custody, they must get these for me. If anyone knows how slow the system works, (plus the fact that I've never been given an original of anything) it will be very time consuming and exasperating to wait patiently while someone else tries to get these to me so I can do the rest.

I've already went before the judge to get written permission to take her across the state line for the vacation, so I have a document from the Oklahoma courts.

I just got off the phone with SWA. In light of the fact that the phones are jammed, I asked this question so I could post it here.
Children flying with parents on SWA must have a birth certificate, shot record, school ID or something confirming their identity. There is not going to be a requirement for a photo ID for underage children.
Hopefully, this relieves some anxiety.
Be well, all.
