How/When would you add the 8th and 9th night?

This will be our first booking, and want to book 9 nights.....the question is 'when' to book the extra nights. We plan on staying our typical vacation time which is Thurs to the following Saturday. I can book this one of two ways:

1. Call and immediately reserve the Thurs-to-Thurs reservation, and add the two extra nights afterwards.

2. Call and reserve the first Thurs and Fri individually---then add the 7 days afterwards.

We plan on starting on 11/6, but can push this out to 11/13 if dates are not available. We would obviously like to stay at our home resort VGF, and would need a Studio (lake or standard is fine).

Any advice???

I would book the Thursday to Thursday that way you have that big chunk guaranteed, and adding a couple days after wouldn't be so stressful. :thumbsup2

I also would book the Thursday to Thursday. There's too much of a risk if you don't grab that big chunk right away.

The way 11month +7 day booking works, once you book the 1st 7 days you are guaranteed the additional days as long as you call back within 6 days. (Fixed weeks can sometimes get in the way, but those begin on Sunday.)

FWIW, it would be better booking the 1st 7 days online, because online "opens" an hour before MS. You will have to call for the extra days.

Are you saying you are guaranteed days 8, 9, 10......etc? If I book days 1 - 7 at the 11 month mark and then call back 4 days later to add 2 more days to my trip I am guaranteed to get the same room? I learn something new everyday, because I never heard that before.

I have booked more than 7 nights multiple times as we usually stay for about 10 nights. I always phone up (or do it online) and book nights 1-7 then you can phone back everyday to add on one more night until I get to the 10 nights. I could always wait 3 days and book nights 8-10 in one go but I'd rather be safe than sorry!

First WELCOME to the DIS! I agree, I have done our 10 night trips this exact same way, calling each day to add the additional day. Once I waited to add the extra days and didn't get the rooms. So this does not go along with what the PP said that you are "guaranteed" the additional nights. I have always believed if someone else beat you to it, you need to waitlist. Now, I'm confused.

Unless there is less inventory due to fixed weeks or scheduled maintenance, then yes. If you book Th-Th at the 11+7 window, you might be assigned virtual room 201. The next day, another member calls in to book Fr-Fr but since you are still in room 201, they have to be assigned room 202... It's not until 7 days after you last book that anyone can be assigned to check into your room 201.

We just bought our first contract in October and haven't booked anything yet.
Am I understanding this right, you can't just book 10 nights?

Yes, you could wait and try to book all 10 nights in one call/computer transaction....but in waiting, you are risking your first 7 days.

Based on the OP's example, if you wanted to book 10 days at your home resort, starting on 11/6/14, you can call on 12/6/13 (11 mo out) and book the 1st 7 days, but you would have to call again (within 6 days) to add on days 8-10.

Or you could wait until 12/9/13 and book your full 10 day trip...but you have given other owners 3 more days to fully book the room you want.

For what seems to be a low capacity/high demand category (VGF studio lake view) I would want to book as soon as I could.

If it were a higher capacity/lower demand room type (like a AKV Savanah view 1BR) you are usually fine waiting.

Ah I get it. Thank you. My home resort is AKV and we would be looking for a one bedroom with a savanna view. Thanks again. I'm Learning a lot on here.
