How/What are your reasons for small add ons?

We got our AKV information pack, and it looks like you can do add ons for AKV - as little as 25 points.

My question is - how would 25 points help me? By having 25 pts at AKV's - I cant really book a vacation that way - correct. You get the 11 month advantage at the resort you own, but 25 pts wont do much.

What am I missing on these small add-ons?

Thanks
Eric

Off the top of my head I can only think of 2 cases where a 25 pt contract would make sense.

First, if you already own at AKV and just want to add-on to your existing point total. Secondly, if you want to own at AKV and plan to bank/borrow those 25 pts over 3 years (75 pts total) and just do a few days in a studio.

I guess a 3rd option would be to do a transfer of points to an existing contract but since you only get 1 a year I'm not sure how viable that would be.

I've never understood the appeal of a 25 point contract, but if you are very flexible with your stays and only want a day or two here and there at a particular resort it could be useful. They say small contracts are easier to resell, but a 25 pt contract wouldn't be too appealing to me if it wasn't already at resort I already owned.

I'm sure more experienced DVCers will know of other ways to use a 25 point contract.

We got to our total of 175 VWL points with smallish add ons, 50, 50, 25, 25, 25, it just worked that way with our finances.

If I ever can't get into BCV for a small (1-3 night) studio stay, I'll buy 25 points there, for my SAB fix.

Here's our reason for our 25 point add on at AKV...once a year we'd like to stay two non-weekend nights there in a savannah view studio in one of the lower seasons. We felt it would be a very long time before we'd be able to get reservations there if we didn't have the owner's booking advantage. So...as of today, we get to go for our first visit over Martin Luther King's birthday weekend. Our next add-on will probably be at VWL for the same reason...we'll just get enough points for a couple of off season nights.

The biggest reason we bought only 25 pts in the first place was because we found out about AKV coming available just two weeks after we bought SSR and used the $15/pt savings we got on our SSR pts to buy the AKV add-on.

Hi...just reading about the small add-ons....can you add points on at any DVC resort? Our home reort is SSR, could we now buy a small contract at say BCV? I thought we could only add on to our home resort. Thanks for your help, we are very new at this!:) :)

Yes you can, if they have the points you can buy them, or go on a waitlist. The points will have to have your same UY. The minimum add on is 25 points if you pay cash, and 50 if you finance with DVC.

There are a number of reasons to add on 25 points even as a single add on. Many are noted above but there are others. Maybe you want to do a few days only as part of a larger stay either on or off property. Or maybe you're a local or visit non DVC trips and want to own just mainly for the perks. We had decided to downsize and one of my main options was simply adding on 25 points and selling all else. In the end I would have preferred to have 50-60 points only but decided to go with 100 points to get the discounted price. But I did get them in four 25 pt packages and will likely change one of those to included my daughter's name thus it will function as a stand alone contract and I still may sell one of the other 25 pt contracts later. I also know a couple of people that own DVC and get a studio from time to time for one day here and there just to get access to the Pool Hopping, DDP and as a place to take a break when they're actually staying off site.

Another reason is part of a larger purchase plan where you buy 25 pts now and more later to get to where you want rather than financing.

Just my thoughts
What if you wanted to go to WDW once a year and spend it staying in a BIG tropical studio in the" best kept secret".(OKW):cloud9:

You want six nights of fun close to DTD and with both bus and boat transportation included in the deal.

You need 82 points to do this. Sooooooooo you buy resale say 25 to 60 points
then add on through Disney to get to your 82 points.

When buying into DVC I feel it is important to look at the overall cost not just the buy in price .The yearly MF over the span of the contract far exceed the inital buy in price.

I quite sure the "addontis " will occur at some point.

The reason I asked is because we have 150 at SSR. We are very satisfied with DVC, love it actually. It has given us some great vacations and we love the 1 bedroom.

We now have a daughter, and thought if we added a 25 pt contract it would allow us to get a 1 bedroom without having to borrow points from the next use year. The borrowing points is not really a problem, but we have thought that with 175, we would be in great shape. It certainly is not a necessity, but something we have thought about.

We dont really care about having rights at another resort, having the 11 month window and being able to stay in a Disney Resort is fine with us. When the opportunity presents itself, we have tried different resorts (Boardwalk), but staying at SSR is great and we are more than happy with it.

I actually sold my initial 160 pt contract and have been accumulating 50 point contracts. The way I have it now I can stay at my favorite resorts but should I ever need to sell my points are at a premium and easier to sell

I am happy with my point count but may have to grab another small HHI.

So how does booking work if you own smaller contracts? If you have 50pts at VWL, then you can book up to those 50 - but then have to wait for the 7 month to use the others?

Does it get complicated?
