How wet is Splash Mountain?

Hi all.

I'm tempted to go on Splash Mtn. but since I'm going in Decemburrr that I don't want to catch a nasty cold by getting wet and then be out in the MK when it's cold.

How wet do you get and what is the best place to sit (front, middle, or rear)?

When I was there in Dec. it didn't seem like they turned the splash down any at all, which they have done in the past. It was very cold and we got VERY wet! Didn't stop us from going on two times in a row. LOL You get wettest in the front, dryest in the back but I've gotten fairly soaked in every row. It really just depends.

What I can't wait for is riding SM during the day and then at night in December. WOoohoo. Can it be December yet?

Well, we've gotten drenched every time (starting from where you sit down in puddles of water from the last people's ride!). But we toned it down with those cheap raincoats you can get from Dollar Tree, etc. We sat on them, and used them to cover up some.

Did it help? Well, yes, it helped -- we were still somewhat wet but maybe we didn't try all that hard after all!

Sometimes you can get very wet, but usually not. In the hot summer it doesnt last long any way and sure feels good. Usually its just a little unless you are lucky or unlucky.

The dryest seat is the last row on the left hand side.

As others have said, how wet you get is very dependant on where you sit, as well as the timing of the log.

There are huge water cannons that spray as each log goes down the big hill that will splash onto riders that are on top of the briar patch. If the timing is just right (or just wrong....depending on your point of view! ) you might get wet there.

After the big drop, you go past a waterfall. There can sometimes be a log backup, and you'll get splashed by the waterfall.

I wouldn't hesitate to go on Splash Mountain in December! Bring a change of clothes and put it in a locker if you're concerned about getting wet. It really is a WONDERFUL ride!!!!!

We've found that the warmer it is outside the bigger the splashes throughout the ride. Watch the people getting off in Dec. That should give you a hint.

My family and I are going to WDW in early November. I had the same thoughts of freezing for the rest of day. I know the temperatures will be a lot different than November in Tennessee, but none the less I have a DD who is very cold natured.

Are there lockers near Splash Mountain to put a change of clothing? I would at least like a dry pair of socks. If I keep her feet nice and toasty, she should be fine.

Unfortunately, the ONLY place that lockers are available at the Magic Kingdom is under the train station.

A pain, I know, but I'd REALLY reccomend it. Splash is DEFINITELY a great ride.

I wonder if you're right MrsG. I was just telling my brother LAST WEEK how we didn't get that wet in December. The next thing I knew we all walked away DRENCHED!!! Felt great!!!

I would wear a poncho in the ride.
Last year went 3 times with my DD, and we stayed dry.

Question for all you Splash experts : Believe it or not, in five trips we have never done Splash ! But we are definitely doing it on our next trip. Everyone says about where to sit -- can you pick where you sit or is it just the luck of the draw ??

Don't feel bad LeslieM. I've been to Universal Hollyweird at least a dozen times or two times since the Jurassic Park ride has opened and I still have not gone on it.

I just can't find the guts to do it.

Last time I rode Splash was in the pouring rain!! So we got drenched irregardless. It was great!! The ride was 100% empty. We walked right on-- and they told us we could stay on.

In my experience you get the wettest in the front but you still get a wet seat regardless of where you are. What we found to be a concern was DD (4) was in the front w/DH and DD(13). When we dropped, she popped out of her seat!! I know she was strapped in and the pop didn't last but a second but scared DH some. The picture was awesome tho!

We were at MK on Wednesday and did Splash Mountain 4 times, 3 times in a row during the e-ride hours.

We got way more wet during our two rides in the front row than the other two rides, especially the ride with a fully loaded boat. The least wet I got was the last ride when I was on the third row by myself in a boat with only five people on it.

There is usually a small waterfall that splashs the right side passengers just after the big turn after the big drop. It is right where the conveyor will stop your boat until traffic clears downstream. This waterfall was turned off on Wednesday, and I was glad because I never liked having water dumped on me while I'm held in place. If you want to avoid that, sit on the left side.

I don't mind getting wet on the water rides, especially on a hot summer night. I did ride Congo River Rapids at Busch Gardens Tampa three times in one day back in February, and we wore $1 ponchos and were comfortable enough.

You may definitely ask where to sit!!! When the ride host/ess asks how many in your party, say "X - and could we sit in the back row?"

We went last december, and it was cooler than our previous trips, but since we LOVE splash mountain, we always MUST ride it. The only thing I noticed that the water was WAY nastier than it was during our previous trips, so that was unfortunate (or maybe we were just lucky before?)

We went on two years ago with my Dad and two young kids. We were in the back two rows. My kids now refer to Splash Mountain as SPRINKLE Mountain, because compared to other water rides we've been on this was nothing but a teeney tiney sprinkle!

We were glad we didn't wait in line and fast passed it!
