Just how wet do you get on Splash Mt and GRR?? Should we bring cheap ponchos? What about shoes? Can we take them off and ride barefoot?

I always tend to get soaked but as I see that being the point of the ride I have a hard time wearing a poncho, but if I could get myself over it I would (it's a personal issue lol). I will only ride them when I am going to be okay being wet for awhile and I have my flip flops with me as my tennis shoes 9 times out of 10 get soaked as well. That's just my experience though, I have seen people come off both with just a bit of dampness.

I know they don't allow you to go barefoot on Kali at WDW, I don't they allow it at DL either.

You cannot ride barefoot but you can wear flip flops which is what we do. They have lockers you can out your shoes in.

Plan on getting very wet. We always do. I wear a poncho but my crazy family doesn't.

my DH, DD9 and DS7 rode on it last summer. DS's shoe was entirely wet and soggy [he can't recall about his clothes but I definitely remember his sneakers were soaked], DH was soggy and wet but DD was mildly wet and her shoes were fine.

We nicknamed Grizzly River Run, Grizzly River Shower, we were completely soaked on it.

Splash wasn't as bad. Although I never ride in the front and I usually hide behind my husband.

GRR ranges from a little wet to soaked to the bone, depending on your seat location, and whether you get hit with the geyser. I don't understand why people wear ponchos - the whole point is to get wet! :confused3

Like PPs said, don't wear socks and sneakers unless you can run back to your room to change - wet sneakers are so not fun. If it is a nice warm, sunny CA day, you will dry off in no time. (Just not the sneakers!)

I think the time of year you visit definitely can affect how soaked you can get.

I've been absolutely drenched on both rides. Like squishy sneakers, had to go to the bathroom to wring out my undies, squeezing water from my hair.

If I don't have a poncho and don't feel like walking around for a few hours with wet clothes, then I'm fine with skipping.

We usually stay at either GCH or PPH, so GRR is a little easier to ride and then change clothes if needed.

Anywhere from a splash to soaked. It all depends so much on where you sit, how many, how much weight in your boat... what things you just hit at the wrong time, like the geyser on GRR.

Splash is more of a spash and one ride at anytime while there is still afternoon to dry off is never so bad.

But GRR I always end up soaked. The difference is the round raft, getting water all down your back, up the side. Tennis shoes can get soaked. I would never wear them on. You must have some shoes on like flip flops and cannot ride bear foot (hahaha too funny a typo to fix... barefoot!)

I will do Splash year round. But GRR I only do if I know I can #1 change or it's summer and warm. I really hate being wet and often am in jeans or capri denim and demin is miserable wet. I also hate having wet hair. You can get your hair all wet just the first part of GRR when things drip and spray on you.

Splash is more of a maybe get soaked, Grizzly is a definitely get soaked or reasonably wet.

Cannot ride barefoot...shoes get very wet on Grizzly no matter where you are as water shoots up from the bottom.

Ponchos are for wimps..the shoe thing I understand, don't want to ruin a pair of shoes or walk around in squishy puddles all day, but I end up doing it anyway!

Flip flops are a great idea...I had to wring out my socks after Splash Mountain in sneakers! (The stupidest thing is that I HAD flip flops IN MY PURSE but forgot to put them on!)

I'm not a poncho person, so I can't speak to that, except actually, I'm not sure I'd consider the scenery in GRR to be so amazing that I'd wear a poncho just to see it. I don't think I'd ride that ride if I didn't have at least some interest in getting wet...it's mostly about spinning around and getting sloshed with water. You'll probably be drier if you're not by one of the vehicle entrances, but everyone in my party got at least kind of wet.

Have a great trip!

If I ride rows 4 and back on Splash I don't get very wet. GRR varies a lot... Not much you can do to game it. I only ride it if I'm wearing shorts and it's a warm sunny day.

GRR was like going through a car wash. Water coming from EVERYWHERE! I've been soaked on Splash but never like GRR!

I agree. The back of Splash is not a "get soaked" location. I've ridden many times in the back and only gotten spritzed/slightly splashed. I've ridden in the first seat and gotten drenched from head to toe *inside* the mountain even before the drop, thanks to a heavily loaded log.

To me I think GRR is kinda a crap shoot if you get wet or not. I have seen people walk off with nary a drop and others drenched. It just depends on where you sit and if you get lucky enough to have a geyser go off next to your seat.

On Splash, now that's a different story. It definitely matters how heavy your boat is. If it is filled with adults (tall and decently weighty), then the boat sinks lower into the channel and water can more easily spill into the boat throughout the mini dips and just the average rocking around. 2 examples for to keep in mind. I went with DM, DF, and DB a few years back. We are a very tall family (DB is 6'8" and DM, who is the shortest, is 5'10") and none of us are skinny Minnies ::MinnieMo. They put us 4 in the front and a poor father and son in the back seats. We sat down and you could see the log just sink about 2 inches :scared1:. Poor DM came off that ride sopping wet; her shoes were sloshing and she ended up having to buy flip-flops just to dry her feet off.
Another example was 2 Thanksgivings ago, went with BFF's family. Again the 6 of us were all pretty tall. They put us all in the same log. Poor BBF's sis came off that ride soaking wet. She had to step into the bathroom to take her shirt off and wring it out over the sink. Poor thing had to buy new pants because her jeans just weren't drying off and were actually starting to fall off of her because of the weight of the water. It was ridiculous.:sad2:

So in conclusion if you have made it this far, GRR, there's really no way you can plan on how to either get wet or not to get wet. I would just expect it. On Splash, make sure that the weight isn't too much for your log. If there are a lot of adults in your party, I would suggest splitting up or generally just making sure that you won't end up like the poor father and son that were in the back of my family's log.

It is my understanding that both GRR and Splash have different settings that affect how wet guests can get. These are changed between summer and winter.

I have heard that, too, but I got just as soaked (like I had just been plunged underwater) over Thanksgiving weekend as I did in August. Maybe Thanksgiving isn't yet considered winter . . . .

When we rode GRR over Christmas 3 years ago the person who got wettest was my middle son, who was the lightest in our raft. However, he was sitting directly across from dh (6' and 250lbs). The water splashed over dh's head (his hair was soaked) and hit ds full force, soaking him. The rest of us weren't too wet at all. Ds was a good sport, wore an extra coat that was dry, and dried off sooner than we expected.

I agree that you never know who is going to get wet. Depends on many factors.

That is our usual experience too- so we put dh in front seat this weekend- he walked off dry! We were rather annoyed since the right leg on all 3 of us girls was very wet, all the way down to our shoe.... but it was a beautiful warm day and we dried in less than 30 minutes :)
